there is mobile satellite Internet, slow and expensive but enough to check flight radar

also russian professional operators would know it wouldn't be a military aircraft if they had the information about 35K altitude

@Mojo

handed to them and explained them the basics, it's relatively simple system and fairly easy to use, the problem is that in situations like this experience plays the role

So you support the ongoing Russian operations to usurp democratically elected democracies around it's borders then.

Glad we got that clear.

He didn't get that from your post. He employs the language typically used to describe the truth of the US-backed coup in Ukraine to depose a sitting democratically elected president for the purpose of accessing petrochemical resources and opening the Ukraine to predatory capitalism.

It's some odd form of reverse projection and is best ignored or laughed at. smile

'If' Yanukovych stole money from the Ukraine people what do you think should of happened to him and how would you have implemented any punishment?

Question for Are Out & Scherz.

I might be mistaken, but have you posted on this topic before?

Or are you upset at having your arse handed to you on the Janner thread you are resorting to trespassing where BEARS dare?

Yanukovych didn't steal any (significantly) more money than Poroshenko, do you really think you could become a billionare legally in a corrupted state like Ukraine?!

Your question has nothing to do with the US-backed coup to depose a sitting democratically elected president.

I thought I was asking too much to expect a direct answer to a direct question anyways.

Nice diversion Sherks.

I think professional russian operators would have the means to check if it was a civilian aircraft even without separate radar. More likely it was just handed to rebels with only a basic training and that was the main problem.
The BUK is hard to operate. It's 1960's tech with vacuum tubes etc. It takes too long to train somebody to use it. As I said, it is possible to have proper IFF but that requires a separate vehicle with another radar. The basic BUK launcher has a fairly basic radar.

US shot down the Iranian airliner by mistake and it was a ship full of radars and operators. Russian army soldiers are not some supermen with 100% situational awareness etc. The know how to operate the BUK sistem and that's it. They saw a contact and were impatient to shoot it down and get a medal. Simple as that.
