Surely if the man in question was not made aware of the minimum charge then he does not need to pay it. No contract has been entered in to or inferred, so he only needs to pay for the water at the upmarket rates. By ordering the water, he enters in to the contact to pay for that - but not the minimum spend.

He didn't. I'm a bit surprised that a man of his experience (and in the property game) just sucked it up. I wouldn't have and explained why, but perhaps offer a tip to the waiter.

I wouldn't tip if they have added a service charge already, I hate automatically added service charges.

Spineless cretin didn't complain at the time. Instead he waited a week and cried on Twitter. I presume this was when his expense claim got rejected by Dorothy in accounts.

more important - what sort of business meeting is it where you take the clients somewhere swanky and buy them water!

Next week, he will be asking how to ignore parking charge for "parking" too long on Maccie's carpark / services!
He's just practising his Daily Compo sad face.

Where is this lovely hotel and would they ask for £25 for me to have a poo in plush surroundings?

Wouldn't blame them if they did, many years ago a mate's mum & dad ran a pub next to a bus station.
The customers used to take the piss. (Ok I could have phrased that better)

They'd probably ask you to use the toilet like everyone else. Dirty bd.

Their cigar terrace is not the lobby of a high end hotel where anyone can grab a coffee and flip open your Acer. It's a flash space with limited seating and high demand.......he thought he could sit there for 3 x 60p

He's a Muppet.
I'd suspect also if they'd had more than some water i.e. cheapest on the menu ( or they prob even asked for tap water) then the min fee would have been waived. Suspect also if resident at the hotel it would have been waived too. Wonder what his attitude was like ?

wow, posh hotel in prime location charges lots. who'da thunk it.

Maybe mr heaton should have his meeting on a bench outside lidl.

bet he's the same sort that calls out a sparky like me to change a light bulb then is "surprised I charge that much for such a little job", like I'm supposed to be able to go round charging 30 bob after travelling, parking etc and the general expenses of running a biz.

Moonhawk said:
The issue appears to be not that there was a minimum spend - but that he was not informed about it before ordering (a legitimate complaint IMO).
You're correct but in fairness to the hotel, a lot of their clientel might take offence at the idea they need to be informed that there's a minimum spend.
