Saw this on Fox news earlier so I'm not sure how much bending of the truth might have happened in the reporting, but it sounded an interesting story.

A few years ago, the famous "Americas Dealiest Sniper" wrote a book about his time at war (in Iraq IIRC). In it, he talked about an altercation that happened in a bar shortly after returning home from his first tour of duty. He alleged that another patron had badmouthed him and the US Army, and said the SEALs that the sniper was part of, deserved to lose a few battles.

Since then, the sniper has been killed in the line of duty, but the patron has come forward and sued his estate for defamation. Fox was reporting yesterday that the patron won the case, and the snipers widow now has to stump up to the tune of about $1.8 million. A lack of a live testimony from the sniper was cited as one of the reasons why his side lost.

What kind of person sues the widow of a war hero over an argument he started in a bar years previously?

It happens to be true.

Chris Kyle was the author's name. He'd left the Navy and was murdered last year at a firing range along with another man by a deranged ex-soldier with PTSD that they were trying to help.

The guy suing his estate is Jessie Ventura, himself a former Navy SEAL, wrestler, actor ("I ain't got time to bleed" - Predator) and Governor of Minnesota.

Incidentally Clint Eastwood is making a movie version of Kyle's book, also called American Sniper, starring Bradley Cooper as Kyle.

Fox news - don't ever let pertinent facts get in the way of a headline.
