Air strikes on ISIS
Discussion
Personally I support the air strikes, ISIS has up to 20,000 fighters and have 2 billion USD to spend, they are the most extreme Islamic terrorist organisation ( so extreme al Qaeda don't want anything to do with them) and probably have enough numbers that in time they could probably capture Baghdad and you know what that means.....
Ideally we wouldn't of invaded Iraq in the first place and we wouldn't be in this mess, but we/the US did so where help is needed that does not involve boots on the ground we/the US should atleast be an option as Iraq will not be able to fight off ISIS alone

As for air strikes.. it's a tough one - I think the better approach would be to go for the countries that fund these guys - Saudi's etc. Likely to happen?
Unfortunately ISIS is almost self-funding at the moment due to the rather slack security Iraq put on its arms and banks. I appreciate your point though that Saudi Arabia certainly plays a part in this. Is it also true that ISIS are comprised of the same rebels we were supporting and arming in Syria?
The islamic state captured ex american army bases and the millions of dollars worth of equipment to be found in them, im sure i saw a video where they'd just burnt most of it however.

A mistake
We should stay out of it
Any move against a Muslim state angers the world
Let the religion of peace sort it out
What part of christian genocide don't you get?We should stay out of it

Open our borders and bring them to the UK!! Be nice for a change, wouldn't it.
Was listening on Radio 4 to some telephone interviews with Christians trapped and, quite obviously, terrified.
This is medieval stuff. I don't really care who takes out ISIS, but someone needs to do it now. If the caliphate isn't destroyed now, I think it could be harder in the future.
The Islamic State truly wants to take humanity, with the notions of tolerance, education and mutual respect, back to the stone age. This is not the time for liberal hand wringing IMO, just squash the bds.

Some say they will try to cross into Saudi. The Saudis have deployed 30,000 troops on their border to deter them. This is a good sign the Saudis are not their supporters.....unless this is for optics.
ISIS also attacked a town in Northern Lebanon. The Saudis have just given £3 billion pounds weapons to Lebanon in response. Jimbeaux said:

It just sends a clear message to ISIS to not get any fancy ideas about heading their way. Loony groups biting the hand that feeds them isn't exactly unheard of.
The Saudis are masters in meddling elsewhere but not tolerating any dissent close to home.

True. They have taken a dam in Mosul, that controls the water supply of Baghdad from the Tigris River. Ibril holds US military and diplomatic posts. ISIS formations are currently in the open, now is the time Obama should take the chains off and let the airforce wipe out as many of those as possible. They have captured western kit and have a bloodlust. They have stated that Europe and the US are next. Consider this; several thousand are known to hold European and US passports. Seeing how vicious they are, what do you think is going to happen if/when they come inside? There will be carnage in the homeland like we have not seen. Fight them there, not at home. This is medieval stuff. I don't really care who takes out ISIS, but someone needs to do it now. ISIS seems to be a manifestation of all the dark sides of humanity. Liberal hand-wringing types will default to their usual position and seek political solutions, while denigrating the West for somehow creating the monster in the first place ( which is, of course, total BS: these disputes are as old as history ) .
I think the only solution to ISIS is for the rest of the world to exterminate them. If we don't they will wage war in pursuit of exterminating us.
Many of western countries have (IMO) used their military strength for the wrong reasons in the recent past, whether that be geo-political, oil, influence etc. resulting in negative consequences.
This however is the type of scenario where we SHOULD be doing something - eliminating those intollerant of others beliefs, and who want to drag us back to a period (hopefully) most humans have evolved on from..
"Targeted airstrikes" implies a narrow focus. I am hoping the hounds get unleashed on the lot of them, not just those approaching the mountain. The Iraqi Air Force has also struck. Some say Turkish air craft have crossed the border and struck as well seeing as ISIS is on that border too. Iraq denies that Turkey has done so.

Seems that IS fired artillery at peshmerga forces who were 'near' US forces - and that was close enough to unleash a response. There's quite an argument to say that the previous military intervention was one of the causes of this problem. Should we/the US go in with guns blazing again? I'm torn, but probably in favour of it.

If that happens I'd suggest they should have their British citizenship revoked on the spot and be shot very soon afterwards. If the Met police could find their assess with both hands then maybe they'd be able to find the people who did this; http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/07/flag-...
