Front page of Times tomorrow 'Case against Cliff dropped'.

I suppose whichever Yorkshire police force it was could tow a banner around behind an aeroplane like the one Farage crashed in announcing that after they told the BBC where to fly their helicopter to get the best video footage of the raid on his apartment?
Only 1 of the 3 charges to date, but I expect the others will follow. Hopefully broadcast live ob the BBC 6 O'Clock news..

Just searched the BBC News site for their take on it, only a link through to MSN site.

I rather hope that they are just waiting for the official statement from the police before reporting the dropped charges and not sulking.

A recent interview with Paul Gambaccini was illuminating.

Apparently, one of Jimmy Tarbuck's accusers said in 1963 he said he would get her a dancing job on the show if she performed a sex act on his road manager.

The only problem is, ToTP didn't start until 1964, and Jimmy Tarbuck has never been on it...

Paul Gambaccini published a book of his Yewtree experiences last week.

Admittedly, most of it seems to consist of name-dropping and ranting (apparently he suffered from "rages" at times), along with info on people who've taken him out to dinner and where they went! (I couldn't read the whole book, I got thoroughly fed up with it...)

But it does contain some interesting insights into the whole Operation Yewtree approach and the difficulties the accused celebrities have with clearing their names. Also the fact that compensation of some sort is paid to the "victim" even if the person accused is acquitted or never charged.

I'll be amazed if Cliff is ever charged, let alone found guilty of any misdemeanour.

My goodness that new single; the lyrics, the melody...dreadful.

Every individual word is a cliche. You can guess the next word before he sings it. Nothing against the man, but that new track is fking awful.

Operation Yewtree has had lots of success with investigating and prosecuting historical sexual offences which are hard work. The conviction rate is much higher than normal. Juries are being satisfied beyond reasonable doubt. It is easy to forget that whilst being, for the whole, unjustly cynical and thinking the victims are lying (for whatever reason - must be fun going through the investigatory process) or want compensation. A similar sexual offence stereotype which belongs in the 'well she was dressed provocatively' category.

Oh for Pete's sake! Leave the man alone! So he's not cool any more (he was once a long time ago). His detractors slam him because they affect to detest the anodyne music and the affected persona yet drool over hundreds of personality-free wannabes who will never in a million years get anything like his fame and fortune without living a rubbishy life exposing their bits and abysmal lack of morals all over trashy papers! And few of the modern hopefuls can actually 'sing' a note without electronic tracking.

After all, the police have dropped the case. That means they have insufficient evidence of any incident involving him (or the complete lack of any evidence against him) to proceed. That means he did not do it! Get a life!

Okay, out of the shadows into the light. Exactly what I was trying to do!

Of course liking the group doesn't confer fan status for the front man as well, and, incidentally, it was a wonderful land at the time with footapping men of mystery at midnight. Especially if you were in the FBI or on the kontiki expedition. Enough, enough.

Not much to argue about there.

However this specific case is very different. Incredibly high profile, smacks rather of lets drag this name around as widely as possible because it looks like he ought to be guilty of at least something. A worrying move, trial by media.
