Damn paedo's in Rotherham

Any news on Cliff?
Precipitous; he's clearly responsible for the deaths of 4 young men in an AEC Routemaster, who plunged to their fiery doom when distracted by him.

Not forgetting a hamster called SPG that fell asleep on the radiator of a Ford Anglia.

For the slow witted and the litigous; this is a joke.

'Right Tony, we've got Cliff and a photo of him kissing your wife, and we have a photo of you stood with Jimmy Savile in front of a ploughed field. Now let's have a cup of tea and a little chat about this Dodgy Dossier shall we.....

I wonder how many people voted for him. If people can't be bothered to vote they have little cause for complaint when the person elected turns out to be a muppet.
This is the problem. Even before this scandal it was obvious this prat was a useless oaf, but the fact that his campaign had Labour printed all over it, meant that even Hitler would have been elected for the role.

While we are Godwinning, people tend to forget that Hitler was actually elected. That's maybe one reason why he's even more perturbing than Stalin or Mao, each of whom murdered even more people than Hitler but neither of whom was elected.

I don't think many historians would agree with the view that Hitler was elected, suggesting as it does, a fair democratic process, resulting in an overall majority.

Hitler's party managed to win the largest number of seats in the Reichstag and form a Coalition Government. We had something similar not so long ago, although the comparisons end there! The last election before Hitler assumed full control was tainted by violence and chicanery. Earlier elections had been a bit less tainted, but still seen substantial votes for the Nazis. The point is that Hitler did not obtain power through a coup or revolutionary rising. I am not suggesting that Hitler was any sort of paragon of democracy.

Good. I just have an issue with general comments such as "Hitler was elected" because they tend to be used to support notions that he enjoyed overwhelming support and gained power in an environment such as the one we enjoy. I'm not saying that's what you meant. smile

By no means did I mean that. We cannot, however, ignore the uncomfortable fact that many people voted for Hitler. Still, a few (not that many, on balance) people vote for Farage et al. Electors, eh?

PS - further Godwin and thread drift points all round, but as there is zip all to say about Cliff, why not?

Farage is in the classic model of popular "blame the foreigners" appeal. Policies? Well, who needs 'em.

He isn't 'blaming the foreigners' - he's simply saying we have enough here, and many people agree with him. Why do these 'asylum seekers' camp at Calais desperate to get into the UK? Why not settle down in France? Or any of the other Western European democracies they travelled through on the way here?
If you can answer any of those questions satisfactorily, then you might be able to persuade me that Farage, who has a German wife, is nothing more than a xenophobic racist.

Ps - I've just realised I'm on the Cliff Richard thread!! I'm going to have to read back now and discover how Farage popped up laugh

Good questions. "Foreigners" already here also probably do not want more and upset the finely/precariously balanced apple cart.

He's a politician, just like the rest. He makes out he is different somehow but he's out there, promising this, that and the other, knowing full well he can't provide. Has he cracked the problems associated with asylum seekers? He must have suggested so because everyone seems to think that if he gets voted in, all such problems will be solved. So good for him because no other country in Europe has managed to suggest a solution.

All the money we save by leaving the EU will be used to fund more police, more soldiers, more prisons, more this, more that and more the other, but even the most favourable reports tend to suggest that financial benefits will be low and the consensus is that it will cost us in the medium term.

The only thing that leaving the EU will stop is free(ish) movement of other EU residents and despite what the DM promised, that hasn't been a flood.

Further, marrying a German in not way stops you being racist. That is too simplistic, and by some way.
