Certain members of Caricom are a good example of holding onto the notion that all the countries problems stem from the white suppression during the times of extensive slavery. What is ignored is the way that ruling parties treat their own nationals, it's disgraceful. A total lack of civil liberties, huge amounts of dishonesty and high levels of corruption. - Not to mention the openly racist views of many high profile government ministers.

If you mean a person of an ethnic minority group, yes it should be BUT when your whole community's existence there is solely as a result of slavery then you are damned from the start.I am not excusing anything, simply offering suggestions as to what is behind it.

That's a long time (149 years to be exact) and in my view, your argument isn't valid, there are plenty of opportunities for those in black communities to become successful and break the cycle. We should probably look at all the under achieving blacks that have their routes in slavery, such as the huge number of attorneys, judges, accountants etc....
I think there is a real problem with the 'community' frowning on achievement. The number of black students entering into the college system is at an all time high, yet college drop out rates are some 30% higher in black male students than white male students.
A lot of the theories for this are the based around the lack of support from their communities that are not familiar with higher education etc. - Whilst this may be valid, where is the drive for success and ambition from the individual? We constantly see excuse after excuse for the failings of this particular group around the world and never place any questions on the individuals involved.

Yes those high-flying Af-Ams have done well, they escaped their communities but they have more willpower, more drive, more intelligence than the average person. The negative hold that these communities, combined with poor prospects for the average man, mean that only the strongest can break free. They were dealt a bad hand FROM THE START and they were held back for centuries, this is an obstacle that other ethnic minorities have not had to overcome. Other ethnic minorities and immigrants made the move largely through their own decision, having the chance to leave the bad behind and start afresh in a new community of likeminded optimists and where the work was.
It will require some real strong leadership from within to change the culture that exists there, but also meaningful prospects have to be available, real work.
You can't rule a town where the majority of people are black by a minority of whites.Resentment will start and the end results will be riots.
