Either way, stealing the latest trainers obviously helps reduce the impact of the shooting.

Retail Therapy becomes Looting Therapy...as long as it's followed by stripey daylight!

Police shot another man who had a hand gun and started shooting at them, reportedly in a critical condition. Picture of business owners in the town improving security:

I do find this whole right to bear arms thing abit of a mess if I'm honest, the shop owner seems to have a pretty impressive looking machine gun which he probably bought legally and wouldn't surprise me if the handgun was at one point legally bought aswell, then because there are so many guns in America the police need to all be armed and hey presto cops with twitchy fingers and mass shootings become fairly normal

Nothing softens the blow of losing a young upstanding member of the community more than a new pair of Nike's

So black guy robs store then gets into scuffle with Police officer and winds up shot dead, local residents riot in protest at their sweet & innocent friend who wouldn't hurt a fly who is now dead. They then burn and loot their own community??

Sounds pretty standard for African-American-Caribbean communities
Except he wasn't arrested for being involved in a robbery. That information wasn't public at the time of his death.

Yes in general but you'd have to ask Nickyboy about this specific instance.

I never understand this. Every time there's a kick off, it's because some scumbag has been taken down by a copper, and then people kick off.

I could understand people having at the powers that be if there was an innocent person that's been brutalised by the coppers, but why all run to the defence of a theif? Once you've passsed that logical barrier, why come to the conclusion that destroying your own community and looting it is the best way to show support to said vagabond?

The general public baffle me, they really do.

Lots of 'evidence' in this thread that isn't being reported elsewhere...

So far, all that's been established is that 2 men were walking back from shops to home at midday. Cop stops in car and asks them to stop walking in the road ("get the fk onto the sidewalk")

This is where reports differ. Police claim there was a struggle for the cop's weapon and the guy was shot.

Witness says guy was running away when the first shot hit, and had his hands up saying "don't shoot I don't have a gun" when the other shots were fired.

Other witness says first shot came from inside the car.

No-one (apart from on this thread) has suggested he was stopped for robbery and/or that he was a 'promising footballer'.

And I don't understand why people make excuses for the police (not accusing you btw). It's their job to keep law and order, not that of the people they are paid to police.

They killed somebody. Thief or not, they are not executioners. You're having a laugh if you think anyone believes they shot the guy because it was absolutely necessary to protect the innocent. Going by what I've heard even the white middle class think they shot because it's easier than running.

And now, law and order has broken down. I believe this story broke on the same day someone posted in the "tooled up coppers" thread, "police are generally more respected in countries where they're armed".

Don't know whether to laugh or cry.

And now the National Guard have been deployed so tonight might get messy. They don't have a great track record of these things.

St Louis is a mid western city, not southern. Owes its existence to being a trading hub and port where the Missouri and Mississippi rivers merge. Big Irish and German populations. It's a pretty major regional hub. Centre for service industries, healthcare, fair bit of tourism, certainly used to have a fair bit of big industry ... McDonnel Douglas, Anheuser Busch, Monsanto. I think the comparison with recent London riots is useful. Seeing things kick off in St Louis is about as strange as seeing rioting in Croydon. Is there segregation btwn neighbourhoods economically and ethnically? Absolutely. Did it feel like a powder keg. Nope.

@ paranoid airbag,

From what I read this morning on the link above, they were being stopped for the robbery? If it was just jaywalking, obviously that changes a lot!

No the robbery bit was released later by the police. At the time it was for walking in the road.

That bunch is not the "general public" but a small section with a big audience. Professional agitators like the "Reverend" Al Sharpton took off from his job at MSNBC to go and work his racist magic to further divide black and white. You lot likely wont see it on the BBC, but a number of prominent black figures are calling him out for doing nothing but making things worse.
