So possibly as bad as it gets, could have massive effects on the Northern hemispheres weather patterns if history is anything to go by.

Seismic activity suggest its going to bang very very soon

I'm sticking my finger in the air & going to say Friday 3pm

So does that mean we are all hooped?

I.e. should I start buying canned goods and shotgun shells, or is this a get all the family together and some cyanide.

Scary reading, and there hasn't been a volcano of this possible scale in living memory, biggest I can think of that caused massive issues was St Helens in the 80's but I don't know what the similarities are, as Helens just went Bang, this one could just erupt for a long time and that's the problem, if it spews gases out.

We can see, it may just be shifting about a bit and come to nothing, but a missed holiday in Spain for me would be the least of the issues if this went off.

On a slightly related note, seeing the 'seam' running along the middle of Iceland of previous volcanic and tectonic movement id pretty humbling seeing how big it is!

The web cam should give a hint of trouble, that is the ice sheet that sits on top of it. Not when it is happening but what could be in store.

As you mention St Helens, they think that's gearing up again as well. There's a cool video here showing the dome growth:

Guessing different camera lens. My wide angle vs my 50mm for example.

The one in 2010 was a baby compared to this. The history does not make for pleasant reading.
A rift 23 kilometers long opened up in places up to 100 meters wide with lava fountains at times reaching over a kilometers into the air - and it continued erupting for 8 months. yikes

Yep, there is another one in Russia that was a big banger many centuries ago and its lava dome is increasing annualy, but its more likely to go pop in small stages rather than BANG like the Iceland Bunga one, Laki or Katla, or indeed St Helens did.

Basically really long winters for 2 years and lots of sulphur in the atmosphere especially in the low countries and Scotland\east of England.

Those camera's have been removed now I think? Mt St Helens. Remember looking in when they were active, or the captured images released. It back to quiet for now.

The Alaska part of the US monitoring usually has a few kicking off, seems quite active up there.

Edit. Mt St Helens cam is being updated it seems.

Well, to answer that question, we'd need to know how often you are in Norway, and for how long.

Doesn't red mean actually erupting? I thought orange was the highest without actual eruption.

I'm off on holiday tomorrow. I hope it doesn't turn out to be longer than I expected! As much as I enjoy geological things I think I would prefer this one to keep a lid on it.
