To those saying "do nothing, let the Arab states sort it all out themselves".

Fine, but then don't expect to hold much influence over the outcome of such a strategy whatever it may bring.

To those saying "lets get involved" well theirs yet to be a successful long-term intervention in the middle east by the west.

It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation.

On balance, whilst the Oil is still needed, we'll ultimately always keep interjecting. After all, we can't have the Saudi's (et all) being overthrown and replaced by a regime that no longer wants to sell us oil.

Iraqi TV is showing a program supposed to ridicule Isis.

It shows a Jewish woman having sex with Satan and creating the Isis leader.

I didn't realise Syrian girls were quite so hot. I suggest full military action immediately to release these stunners.

IS direct their Australian sympathisers to snatch random citizen for public beheading and draping on the IS flag. Probably add a "retaliation" to the 600 Australian troops being deployed.
Scarily achievable? Australia, here, anywhere in the civilised world. Maybe not the US - brandish a knife and hack at a random and you'll be shot pretty quickly I imagine. But here? How many bystanders would risk life to intervene?

This is what every western government is absolutely stting themselves about. Sadly it's highly likely we'll see this happen over the course of the next few weeks, it is simply impossible to stop.

Australia have done something quite interesting there. They got the intel and acted in a way that the US and UK would not/could not do - they simply rounded up everyone they had serious concerns about.

If you tried that in Bradford, London or Dearborn and you'd have 10 times the number - simply couldn't be done (successfully.)

Where does it say they've rounded up everyone they're worried about? They've raided some houses and arrested 15 suspects, no?

Just a few of the many reasons would be:

1) Numbers - there are far more potential nutters here / in the US than in Oz.

2) Political fallout - both Obama & Cameron just couldn't take the risk of upsetting the domestic Muslim communities like this - Abbott doesn't give a fk.

3) Due to reason 1 above doing something heavy handed in the UK may well lead to worse problems as it would be seen as an unprecedented kneejerk reaction. Oz has form for stuff like this so it's not a shock.

4) The financial cost - a roundup like this needs to be done as one, we don't really have the numbers or infrastructure in place to knock down potentially 150 doors at the same time.

I'm not saying it will NEVER happen but it does clearly show how Australia has a different way of dealing with these kinds of things. A methodology that the UK and US can't really copy.

Saying that we'll probably wake up tomorrow with a dude getting his swede lopped off in Melbourne and I'll look like a prize .

As in; worried about specifically with respect to this current threat. My point is that if such a proclamation were made here in the UK it would lead to a far greater number of potential suspects as we have many more islamonutters here than Australia does.

Absolutely. I spent time in Beirut some years ago and it rivalled anywhere on earth for totty-quality.

The sad thing is that they suffer from what we decided was called 'The Italian Syndrome' - these beautiful girls had a habit of turning into waddling behemoths in the blink of an eye once they hit around 45. Shame really as I have to admit to being a bit of a milf man.

Yes the only difference is that here the home grown variety are already 'waddling' past 30 of age, so you are still 15 years ahead in terms of totty quality.
