Slightly macabre question, but why are the beheading victims so seemingly calm and compliant, and reading out prepared statements attacking the West, etc. If I knew my head was about to be hacked off I (think/hope) I would be more upset about it, would kick up a fuss, refuse to read the statement, etc. Is it because they don't know they are about to be executed?

yeah I mentioned this earlier in the thread

Seems they had them do many takes with the fake head cutting scene.

When the vid cuts to the gruesome end its as if that 'scene' was filmed later.

So I reckon the poor blokes were told 'hey just relax nothings going to happen (yet) its just a propaganda video.'

I personally think they were all filmed at the same location successively, then they killed the poor men and then the message overlaid with relevant content at a later date.

They do lots of mock executions, the victims were no doubt told this was going to be the same. "Read the speech to camera and we won't hurt you and you can go back to your cell".

Makes sense. I would like to think they were shot, and beheaded afterwards.

Yup, legendary bike journo in 90/early 2000's, posted quite a bit on Biker Banter, indeed look on there at the mo and you will see his original kidnap thread bumped back up, including hi sspooky reply from back then.

Sad news that he was one of us, I think after getting caught and freed by a group of nutters once, I wouldn't be going back myself! frown

Iraqi TV is showing a program supposed to ridicule Isis.

It shows a Jewish woman having sex with Satan and creating the Isis leader.

Think you're missing several layers of symbolism.

The Cowboy, Stalin, the Woman (Britannia/Queen?), Dracula and the Joker (not sure who they is supposed to be) catches the Bouquet and even the tortoise.

Pardon my ignorance on this topic - but genuinely interested as to the motivations. Why would ISIS be deliberately and apparently continually bating the West, when they are in the midst of a massive grab of territory (from what I can tell)? To my mind it's similar to deliberately setting off the burglar alarm *before* looting a house.

Is it because:

- They are just insane?
- They think there is strategic advantage to doing it?
- They believe a war against a vastly superior force will suit their ends? (e.g. create more recruits through war)
- It is a distraction from the territory grabing?

I just can't see how they come out better for this approach, or at least before they've genuinely consolidated their hold over a significant populace / territory.

Look where they came from.

Western intervention causes some Muslims to radicalise. Without the fight of the west they are just one islamic nation fighting a bunch of radical butters. If we and the US start joining in then they have a stronger brand appeal. Al Qaida were never that strong - they just looked great because they were "fighting" the west.

I would guess that by getting the US and the coalition to wade in would bolster ISIL's claim that the western infidels have got it in for the followers of Islam. They can use this to motivate the sleeping sympathisers

I thought I recognised that name, he wrote for Performance Bikes for many years as I recall.

Let's hope for the best.

There seems to be some strange plot to have the Foley beheading video removed from the internet entirely. I'm not sure why they have picked on this particular video, when there are dozens of beheadings, but they are getting very serious about it. Documenting Reality was shut down for several days, until they removed it, a first for them. Pirate bay still have copies, but they'll never manage to remove it entirely, as too many people have home copies that can be uploaded any time.

But what is so special about this one guy, I wonder?

There is some speculation around this and who he was captured with. However it would not be appropriate to discuss it here. Not least because it's mainly rumour.

We can. But if it's not being made public its not really on is it...

My information only comes from rumours from blokes who are still serving. That information either isn't true or isn't meant to be made public yet. I'm sure if you are really interested you could work it out, or find it on the Internet.
