Yeah but ISIS have snatched some billions of $$ worth of weapons that the yanks left...

They have some fairly nasty kit ( SA-24 etc etc ) , which makes them rather dangerous i reckon.

maybe older models that don't go over FL100, coalition planes are usually flying much higher

but they might become useful if A10s get into action

A dentist? Perhaps he reasoned that dealing with ISIS and British teeth involved equal amounts of terror and just flipped a coin. biggrin

Has the RAF actually bombed any ISIS yet? They seem to be coming back without having found anything to shoot at.
Yes.

Interesting that the Tornados only bombed tactically ISIS positions that were in contact with Peshmerga, I guess this means that they were called in by UKSF air controllers who are on the ground with the Peshmerga forces (unless we have given the necessary comms and training to Peshmerga itself which seems unlikely). We knocked out one 'heavy weapons position' and one Hilux then. At this rate it is going to take a long time to wipe ISIS out...
If we take half of the cost of one of those missiles in the form of a bag of coin, we could drop it on the same Hilux and crush the hell out of it. Win win all around.

Tens of millions of quids worth of GR4 Tornado, vs. about fifteen grands worth of HiLux plus a paltry assortment of arms and munitions. Sledgehammer vs. nut.
I've seen Top Gear. You need serious ordnance to destroy a Hi-Lux.

Have a look at how much they cost an hour to keep in the air... All those "surveillance" missions seem a bit of a waste. Especially as they could have been done with either a drone or a much cheaper aircraft.

You'd need a B52 to carry that amount of coin! (And a damn good system to drop it accurately.)

Still, I guess there's some penny counter in the US (probably sits at the desk next to the one who works out how much to give the Israelis) working out how much it would cost to put the Bearcat back into production.

I'll send you a big bag of coins if you could actually post a comment on any thread and not mention your favorite enemy.

Which one? The US or Israel? banghead

There are several threads here on which I mention neither -- because they're not relevant.

Are you really suggesting that Israel and the US have no influence on the Middle East?

For a low tech war it seems like it could be a great idea (leaving aside the A-10) just think those, Typhoons, P61s, Ju87Gs... (starts to trawl LUFT46.com)

I am saying your comments about Israel has no relevance to the thread; not this one or the one about the beheading in the US. As for you just saying the US is one of your enemies (yes, you did), that is touchy language to be using in public these days; just saying.

Well, I've been saying it since the 60s. So far no-one has offed me.

I mean, of course, the US as a state. To be an American is an accident over which one generally has no control.

I have no issue with Americans, only with those at their border control - I blame them for the negative view held by some in the rest of world. smile

I have some age and wisdom; however, it is better for one's hair to turn grey as oppossed to turning loose.

Good quality too
The Tornados have the new (relatively) Brimstone missile, which out performs the Maverick and Hellfire in that it is highly accurate, has a smaller warhead to reduce collateral damage, is true fire-and-forget (even against moving ground targets), and can be fired in swarms.

Apparently the yanks love it but haven't put their hands in their pockets yet.
