Christ, they only just beat Custer.
No, they were Sioux.

Edited that for you.
hehe There is validity in that!

The A10 is extremely manuverable at low altitudes as well.
The significance of the ME as opposed to Europe is the large numbers of wide expanses of flat ground.
The ability to manoeuvre is less important when someone several miles behind or to the side can launch a missile which the pilot doesn't see coming.

Note the Israeli losses against Egyptian air defences all those years ago; planes haven't improved as much as missiles in the intervening years & the terrain hasn't changed much either.

True; however, the A10, having been designed to operate at low-slow vulnerable zones, has some of the best "incoming" detection there is.

How do you detect a missile with a passive (IR) guidance system?

You're being very polite. Good afternoon (as it is here).

Back to topic, my understanding of the A10 is that it was withdrawn from the European theatre due to concern over vulnerability to more modern anti-aircraft systems. Bearing in mind the significance of AA weapons in the ME over many years, is this not a big concern now?
the 'logic'...

Interesting, but I did actually state passive IR- this seems quite a good system against active IR systems.

(Please note I use active IR ranging systems on an almost daily basis)

Sorry, let me look. How many passive IR weapons do you think may be in ISIS hands?

I've no idea- they seem to fairly well-equipped. I'd presume them to be well-equipped to have made the gains they have.

Didn't the US donate an awful lot of Stinger missiles to that end of the world a while back? I'd not be surprised if they had some soviet-style equivalents lying around the place, too.

I've seen who was up against them; moderate equipment would be sufficent.

I think their weaponry is over estimated , so they got a few tanks and APV's along with some Humvees , you can guarantee these will be top of the target list and impossible to hide

So that makes eight in total.

The skies over Lincolnshire must be a bit quiet then.

We've still got plenty of yanks here don't forget. Saw three F15 E's yesterday on their way back to Lakenheath, going through the Welsh valley I'm in. Stunning.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that it can take a hell of a beating too and can be kept in the air on one, partially damaged engine.
