There isn't any good in any religion.
But there are good and kind and decent people everywhere, whether followers of a religion or not? There are ten houses in the close I live in; two of the families are muslim; devout, decent kind and caring. Just as there were (mine included) decent kind church-going Irish catholic families in Birmingham at the time of the pub bombings in 1974. My Dad, an Irish police man, born in Dublin was one of the coppers on the scene helping the injured; you simply can't generalise to the extent I see on thread after thread in PH.TheChampers said:

As a species we need to grow out of making stuff up as an avoidance of practicing critical thinking. And for fks sake will someone remove cameron? He's beginning to look like the Chamberlain of our time.
Maybe the mods could rename this thread as we have both US and UK victims and two were aid workers.
Where did all these hostages come from and why no warnings? If people were aware of the situation many wouldn't have walked into this trap. Were the government too embarrassed to come out and say those goodie goodie rebels in Syria were actually bad guys?
RIP Alan

There may be good in most religions and strong moral principles too, but the sheer scope for misinterpretation and fanaticism that seems to hallmark all of them should make us think that it might be time to set them aside and live together without gods.
Couldn't agree more. But I'm afraid the penny hasn't dropped across the whole world yet. We are evolving at different speeds, and as has been demonstrated tonight, some are evolving a lot slower than others.
Prime evil, brainwashed, retarded scum.

Don't be ridiculous, all religions perform good and meaningful things. There is much to dislike in organised religion, and in the interpretation of religious doctrine. But pleased don't become so cynical as to miss the many good things that religion can offer people and the positive things that are accomplished. Gargamel said:

Agreed. The point I was perhaps clumsily trying to make was that a person being religious doesn't automatically stick them in a nutter/extremist grouping; the vast majority are not. I have no formal religious belief and agree that religious doctrines are twisted by extremist minorities of all of them for whatever agenda suits them, but it does not logically mean all believers of whatever creed are the cause of evil. And for fks sake will someone remove cameron? How would YOU deal with these people?
If someone was to ask for volunteers to go and talk to them about civility and compassion, would you be the one to put your hand up and volunteer?
Emotions are running high right now, but to say some comments shame his memory....
