The st is really going to hit the fan if this carries on.
I predict "boots on the ground" before too long.
Do we think that there are already SAS boots on the ground in Iraq/Syria?I predict "boots on the ground" before too long.
If those boys find the people responsible for these beheadings they won't be "brought to justice"

But you are wrong to say we are shaming his memory.
Just which particular type of warhead were YOU thinking would be appropriate for dealing with these clowns?
One that demonstrates our civilty by inviting them to discuss their wrongs over a cup of tea down the local church hall?
For fk sake man. Most of them are already FROM the civilised world. They now what it is about. They want to destroy it, and people like you and me with it.

They've never not been there. Unfortunately this isn't their primary reason for being in the region. The chances of retrieving a hostage are very, very small indeed. If those boys find the people responsible for these beheadings they won't be "brought to justice"

There isn't any good in any religion.
Don't be ridiculous, all religions perform good and meaningful things. There is much to dislike in organised religion, and in the interpretation of religious doctrine. But pleased don't become so cynical as to miss the many good things that religion can offer people and the positive things that are accomplished. The fact is 'humans' can do good AND bad, but when bad is done in the name of religion, like tonight, then like it or not, the religion has to take the blame.

How would YOU deal with these people?
If someone was to ask for volunteers to go and talk to them about civility and compassion, would you be the one to put your hand up and volunteer?
Emotions are running high right now, but to say some comments shame his memory....
Er, no.

I don't for one minute think he was over there to help murderous terrorists.
And unfortunately, we'll never know his thoughts towards his killers.

Hang on. Millions of good deeds are done every second of the day by people that AREN'T following a religion. You shouldn't have to have the backing of a religion to prove how nice you can be to somebody else.

Where did I say there weren't ? The fact is 'humans' can do good AND bad, but when bad is done in the name of religion, like tonight, then like it or not, the religion has to take the blame.
It was the absurdity of the original statement that drew my response.
Good and bad things are done in the name of religion. I am not religious, but as ever on here people like to wk there super modernist intellectual pretensions by posting about sky fairies and how jolly modern the y are and so achingly intelligent that they couldn't possible take the existence of faith as important to some perfectly reasonable people.

The "existence of faith as important to some perfectly reasonable people" is in itself a ridiculous thing to say, your own personal belief system does not,in itself, make you reasonable. It only justifies yourself.
Why should I take the fact that your belief in a deity makes you therefore a reasonable person?
Believe it or not, people get by without having to rely on religion. It may shock those of a religious reliance, but some people are so brain washed by "belief" that they commit acts that in any world of common sense they would be seen as horrific to any level of "reasonable".
Today's murder will only harden those of a non religious system. Believers will apologize, justify and debate and worst of all, avoid.
Non believers will only see the hate and rightly want justice.................
