I mean, I know there's untold horrors unfolding anywhere in the world for whatever reason. However, reading about the plight of the women captives of ISIS, I can't get the contrast out my head: That my current dilemmas are about an iphone 6 and what weekend car to buy next

It's really hard to get one's head around the idea that we're living in the same time, separated by a few hours in a plane.

When the radicalized Army officer shot up those people in Fort Hood, Texas, it was deemed "workplace violence" by the Obama administration instead of the more specific charge of "terrorism". Although the perp himself proudly admits to it, the current administration will not call it terrorism as that contradicts their narrative that terror is on the run around the world. The irony here is that an army base does not allow weapons to be carried by non-security personnel. Had this been outside the army base in Texas, that proud jihadi would have been wallowing in virgins that same day.

So while the Saudi muttawa are whipping, jailing and beheading women who accidentally show too much nose, get caught practicing a sport, try to open a bank account or dare walk out of their house without an escort, the U.S. turns a blind eye.
I can't even get a "we should stop trading with them immediately!" from Appalled of Aylesbury let alone a "I don't want to share a planet with these people. They are a cancer to civilisation". How about a "destroy ISIS and onward to Saudi"?

ISIS in not a nation but a movement that can be fought. Therefore, does the fact that we should "un-like" our Saudi buddies mean we cannot fight ISIS?
Saudi Arabia is a country without the Rule of Law, ruled by a corrupt, cynical, self-serving extended family and a country that retains inhumane, archaic attitudes as you describe.
It does not, however, indulge in conquest, mass murder, mass enslavement and rape and does not threaten other countries. I'd love to have the Saudis dealt with, but IS is rather more of a priority.

I broadly agree with that, it's just that we both know ONLY ISIS will be dealt with and an opposite stance will be taken with SA and any other brutal regime who we consider 'important not to offend'.It does not, however, indulge in conquest, mass murder, mass enslavement and rape and does not threaten other countries.
