I am beginning to believe that the whole Kobani battle is a large distraction while things are being orchetrated to go after Baghdad again. Watch and see if a massive assault on that city is not reported before too long.
Nah, surely western intelligence would pick that up?Or am I crediting our intelligence capabilities with too much, err, intelligence?!

I don't want to share a planet with these people. They are a cancer to civilisation.
Words just fail, they really do. What a primitive, hellish society. And these are the 'people' we are funding and dying for.

But it must be; after all IS are devout Muslims and would never stoop to such bestial behaviour.
Quite the contrary -- they regard captured women as trophies of war, to be sold and/or used as sex slaves. And they despise the Yazidi "Devil Worshippers" more than most. Most of the female Kurdish soldiers retain one bullet to prevent capture. While the Kurds are quite capable of propaganda/media manipulation (to deny them that is both naive and insulting) Kurdish women have a long tradition of standing up for their rights, and it does fit in with ISIS behaviour. I'm inclined to think it's true.
Tal Afar (where many of the captives are said to be held) might eventually be part of a move to encircle and re-take Mosul, but that will be quite a struggle.

Anyone else feel guilty?
I mean, I know there's untold horrors unfolding anywhere in the world for whatever reason. However, reading about the plight of the women captives of ISIS, I can't get the contrast out my head: That my current dilemmas are about an iphone 6 and what weekend car to buy next
Versus hoping you won't be raped for the 31st time in a morning.
It's really hard to get one's head around the idea that we're living in the same time, separated by a few hours in a plane.

Whether they regard them as people, as trophies or as slaves, how does it fit with their religion to rape them?

For comparison, MIG 23 versus South African Air Force in Angola who were fling Mirage F1CZs - the SAAF training in those days was pretty good and there was a lot of collaboration/technology transfer between South African and Israeli forces.http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_184.sht...

When the radicalized Army officer shot up those people in Fort Hood, Texas, it was deemed "workplace violence" by the Obama administration instead of the more specific charge of "terrorism". Although the perp himself proudly admits to it, the current administration will not call it terrorism as that contradicts their narrative that terror is on the run around the world. Radical Islamist mows down two Canadian soldiers in apparent terrorist attack. Perp and one soldier dead.
The irony here is that an army base does not allow weapons to be carried by non-security personnel. Had this been outside the army base in Texas, that proud jihadi would have been wallowing in virgins that same day.
Yep, those links are attrocious examples of religion at work no doubt.
But wait, why the anger over ISIS when Saudi Arabia has a similarly harsh regime?
Here's some highlights of our friends actions:
Imagine you’re a 14-year-old girl who wakes up one morning and is told you are leaving to meet your future husband. He is 50 years old and has other wives. But because you have reached puberty, it is your duty to marry him, have his children and obey every order he gives you for the rest of his life.
Welcome to a life of confinement, where women are considered half the worth of men. Their most basic fundamental rights are forbidden under “guardianship laws,” and religious laws brutally enforced by the muttawa. Welcome to absolute monarchy and the best pal of oil giants and favored partner of the United States.
In 2002, 15 young girls died in a school fire in Mecca. The muttawa caught them running out of the school without their heads and faces fully covered, so they were sent back in to burn to death. Immigrant workers, essentially slaves, are abused, raped and killed on a regular basis.
Saudi Arabia is the only country where it is illegal for women to drive. There is no minimum age for girls to be married, as long as they have started their menstrual cycle, which could be as young as nine. King Abdullah did decide to allow women to vote. However, when they went to do so, they discovered they needed a driver’s licence to cast their ballot, which is illegal for them to have.
Saudi men are allowed to beat their wives and keep them captive inside the home as much and for as long as they choose. And they are rarely punished for killing their wives or daughters.
When men or women violate religious laws — such as a man and woman walking close together in public, a wife seen talking to a man that is not her husband or family, same-sex attraction and suspicion of adultery — the punishment is public execution. They could be beheaded, with the severed head displayed for several hours, crucified or hung.
So while the Saudi muttawa are whipping, jailing and beheading women who accidentally show too much nose, get caught practicing a sport, try to open a bank account or dare walk out of their house without an escort, the U.S. turns a blind eye.
I can't even get a "we should stop trading with them immediately!" from Appalled of Aylesbury let alone a "I don't want to share a planet with these people. They are a cancer to civilisation". How about a "destroy ISIS and onward to Saudi"?
Nah, lets sell 'em some more hardware (to pass on to ISIS) and buy their Oil instead.
Consistency in the fight against evil in general and the mistreatment of women in particular seems very skewed amongst the Daily Mail readers

1)They are not just the US's pal, others buy their oil as well, so even if we stop, others will.
2)They are a nation, however abhorent, and can dp pretty much what they will inside of that nation.
ISIS in not a nation but a movement that can be fought. Therefore, does the fact that we should "un-like" our Saudi buddies mean we cannot fight ISIS?
Saudi Arabia is a country without the Rule of Law, ruled by a corrupt, cynical, self-serving extended family and a country that retains inhumane, archaic attitudes as you describe.
It does not, however, indulge in conquest, mass murder, mass enslavement and rape and does not threaten other countries. I'd love to have the Saudis dealt with, but IS is rather more of a priority.

These are not problems to those who wish to oppose oppression, they are excuses to do nothing. We are promoting and encouraging anti Assad action within that country. 1)They are not just the US's pal, others buy their oil as well, so even if we stop, others will.

Not at all - but we should be just as outraged at Saudi no?Oh, apparently not.

I broadly agree with that, it's just that we both know ONLY ISIS will be dealt with and an opposite stance will be taken with SA and any other brutal regime who we consider 'important not to offend'.It does not, however, indulge in conquest, mass murder, mass enslavement and rape and does not threaten other countries. I'd love to have the Saudis dealt with, but IS is rather more of a priority.
