Personally, I think the Ingram Mac 11 is more suitable for a 9 year old, as ably demonstrated by here Peter Griffin's cousin who moved to Colorado to live his live like he wanted to.

It was in Orlando (Oak Ridge). In terms of supervision, it's night-and-day next to ranges here. I told the guy at the counter I hadn't shot semi-auto pistols before and he just said something to the effect of "You'll figure it out."

To me, a firearm is a piece of sports equipment like a tennis racquet etc. and there's no reason that someone who won't abuse them should be prevented from having them. The problem is that it's easy for the minority of people aren't fit to possess / handle them to cause carnage if they do possess / handle them. The important thing is finding the balance between freedom and security. - I'd like to own a pistol here in the UK, not for doing harm but for target shooting etc. but I can't, "just in case".
