No mandatory body armour for crew??
Body armour is provided AIUI. From what I can tell it seems like the crew ended up actually in the middle of the gunfight. I found a still from the video on the Washington Post, but there looks to be a body in it so I'll just post the link.http://img.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp-...
For the video camera to be in that particular spot things must have gone south pretty fast.

He was wearing a vest according to the news story I watched last night. The bullet went through 'a gap in his clothing'. In other words it didn't hit the vest. The reason Cops had been invited to film this police force was to improve public image following previous shooting incidents. That went well then.

I know this isn't the first incident of "swatting". America's cops really are out of control.

How is that related? And how does "swatting" mean that US cops are out of control? In the incident you linked to the police responded to a report of an active shooter. I don't think there is any way you could expect them to treat the whole thing as a joke - especially given the mass movie theater shooting that took place in Aurora, Colorado in 2012. http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/08/popular...

That's how it was reported midweek on the BBC. I heard the police dept. involved were saying that there could be positive outcomes from this unfortunate incident. The reason Cops had been invited to film this police force was to improve public image following previous shooting incidents. That went well then.
It reminded me a bit of this:

Have you ever considered there might be options inbetween "treating a call as a joke" and "storming in to a house pointing guns at people"? Say, arriving at the house, looking for signs of violence, and knocking? Or does that not have enough freedom for you?
