Threat level severe
Discussion

Well that's just the point.
Theresa May categorically stated that there was NOT any new intelligence that an attack was imminent.
It's a PITA that for the past 15 years odd our governments ,of all parties, have allowed extremists to spout their evil on the street,in mosques and universities etc.
Not only has this increased the risk of an attack but it has also divided our communities so nobody accept the extremists have gained by their inaction.
At least in today's speech Cameron sought to clearly differentiate between extremist nutters and your average Muslim.
It will only be by having the majority of the Muslim community "on side" that we can hope to lessen the threat.
The key word is imminent. The likelihood may be much greater though. It's not an easy decision and easily critised as this forum shows.Theresa May categorically stated that there was NOT any new intelligence that an attack was imminent.

Let's just say you know diddley-squat about what really goes on and what gets prevented. Would you prefer the security services ignore credible intelligence?
Agree, I have no doubt a lot gets nipped in the bud,and top marks to the security team. IS are a threat to the UK & US - prime targets, and have been so for a while now, don't you think?rovermorris999 said:
Nice to see so many informed postings. I assume you all have access to the latest intelligence?
So what, pray, are we supposed to do now we have this wonderful information? Shall we attack anyone with a beard and a backpack? That will mean Guardian readers will get the sh*t kicked out of them whilst hiking....Mermaid said:

Yes but presumably something has changed. I wish Teresa May and MI5/6 the best of luck for all our sakes.Jasandjules said:

Such announcements obviously cause great concern amongst the general public and surely should only be made when the intelligence has the evidence.
On another tack,I really don't know how the public are meant too react, not travel on the tube, not go too the theatre etc etc ?
Of course frequent reminders too be vigilant are fine but this is not that.

What an apt username.... Lock up every single Muslim in the country ?
Do you really think that by alienating circa 3 million Muslims that is the way to go ?
Certainly lock up those that are a real threat but that's another matter.

So what do you suggest ?

Recent domestic events have clearly demonstrated that the Muslim 'community' closes ranks in the face of proposed strong legal action, it's been said on this very forum that a substantial number of these people consider themselves to be 'Muslims living in Britain' rather than 'British' so your idea of getting them 'on side' as you call it against other members of their ethnic group is just pie in the sky.Lock up every single Muslim in the country ?

Can you not hear them,in the mosques,"we told you bruvvers, they hate us,we were right all along, innit."
Wake up,smell the coffee and get real.
It's too late for any of you guys that would wish England to be like it was in the 1950s.
Successive governments, the PC brigade etc have made sure of that?
Within two generations what is referred to as the indigenous white Englishman will be in the minority here.

That is exactly what the alienation of a WHOLE community does it causes them to look inwards and is exactly what the extremists want.

So what's your solution, bend over and take it, let them have their way for fear of 'causing offence'? Can you not hear them,in the mosques,"we told you bruvvers, they hate us,we were right all along, innit."
