Easily dismissed as tin foil hattery, yet far too regular and scarily intrusive to be entirely dismissed.

Whenever I read these headlines, I always skip to the bottom to see which new powers are being introduced. Doesn't really bother me, but it's there.

It will only be by having the majority of the Muslim community "on side" that we can hope to lessen the threat.
What an apt username.... biggrin
So what do you suggest ?
Lock up every single Muslim in the country ?
Do you really think that by alienating circa 3 million Muslims that is the way to go ?
Certainly lock up those that are a real threat but that's another matter.
How do you tell who is a real threat ?

The only thing that will ever happen is another riot or similar.

Is it really as many as 600 who have left to join in with that nonsense?

I thought it was about ten! A surprisingly large number to be honest. Let's just hope they don't let them fking come back.

That is exactly what the alienation of a WHOLE community does it causes them to look inwards and is exactly what the extremists want.
Can you not hear them,in the mosques,"we told you bruvvers, they hate us,we were right all along, innit."
Wake up,smell the coffee and get real.
It's too late for any of you guys that would wish England to be like it was in the 1950s.
Successive governments, the PC brigade etc have made sure of that?
Within two generations what is referred to as the indigenous white Englishman will be in the minority here.
So what's your solution, bend over and take it, let them have their way for fear of 'causing offence'?

Not for me thanks.
I would be very interested to know what you would propose.
I am not proposing that we allow extremists full reign, exactly the opposite.
Come down very hard on the extremists, whilst not completely alienating the rest of the Muslim community.
It's all very well being the "hard man"on the internet but unless you are thinking of interning 3 million people you will need to make the best of what you have and what we have in the UK is a diverse society, where in some areas recent immigrants to this country are in the majority.
We all are ,by nature, tribal and if our perceived tribe is under threat we will naturally look inwards and become aggressive towards that threat.
Don't think for one minute that I am some pacifist tree hugger,I hate the extremists as much as anyone.

Stop, for a moment.

If the threat is actually real, do you think ‘we’ would be told?

Soooooo?

Aw FFS. It’s really not difficult.

Well Yes, it's kinda fking obvious, perhaps Haymarket could quickly patent the idea as it's been mooted on one of their forums.

I have been a member of this forum since 2005 and I have never been moved to say this about another member but the guy that came in and said that we were all being a bit flippant is an utter dick.

What are we supposed to do clever clogs do tell.

Well of course we did.
Glad we are agreed.

I don't why they cannot quietly increase the level without announcing it to IS.
Since we are not party to the actual details of the facts behind this we have to assume nanny knows best. Given the recent levels (if reported correctly) of sometime UK citizens joining terrorist organisations and similar terrorists in the Middle East presumably there is some basis to this announcement. Regrettably there are madmen in our midst and this really confirms the concerns that the security services have. Time will tell and possibly the warnings will drive the terrorists back to hiding. But clearly this is a growing problem. However we still have the imperfect but largely effective advantage of being an island
. I think we have to hope that the increases in security at borders will reduce the risk of fanatics getting into the UK and make the influx less likely. As ever, time will tell.

Yes, but hang on, didn't some Tory or what not MP defect today?

Amazing coincidence indeed. I mean who would have thought it.

Steffan, I like your posts (I read a lot but rarely post), but sorry, on this I disagree.

In one (superbly conjured) statement, eyes get deflected.

We are being played; I’m surprised you don’t see that.

Are we being played though? The timing of it does appear to be a diversionary news headline, or perhaps even a trigger to the NATO summit simply to heighten peoples awareness however, it could be a threat assessment based on real evidence. May will never come out and say that the government has specific intelligence because its stuff the public don't need to be privvy to. If she said that a particular location was about to be targeted, you'd have half the population around it running in the opposite direction and the other half turning up with their cameraphones.

So what do we do now the threat level has been raised?

Unless there is anything to actually practical to do differently then it's just scare tactics...

Exactly this. ^^

Increasing and decreasing threat levels does nothing except forewarn Mr A. Terrorist that 'we're on to him'.

Obviously the indignant poster is in direct contact with MI5, though, so would be better placed than us to comment.

THX, you are in the general consensus now.

There are very few, even mirror/sun/mail readers who believe the crap that comes out of the political media camp any more.
