They aren't at reddit.com/r/thefappening. Honest.

To be honest, most of the pics are fairly tame. Just various states of undress ....

Having see them on 'thefappening'
There is nothing there we haven't seen before on other celebs over the years.

The difference here is its so many at once and because Jenifer Lawrence is in them and is completely naked and they are proven to be genuine, that's why there is such a buzz as she is a very attractive and A list, but nover done nudity hence the media madness.

However there are one or two in there who really should know better. I realise its personal but a few of the pics are in situations I just cant fathom taking nude pics of yourself, like getting out of the shower, or getting dried off\dressed and just randomly take nude pics.

Its not as if the world hasn't seen celeb phones hacked before.

Surely if you want to take nude pics of yourself and with partners, do it on a proper camera that isn't Wi-Fi and save them on a memory card, not on an accessible hard drive with, what we all know, will be crap security.

Hackers can bypass most stuff easily enough if they want to, its not a new thing.

Its a shame for the people involved, not to mention very embarrassing, however if they didn't want the chance of it, don't take nude pics of yourself if you are in the public eye.

Its obviously very bad in terms of how the privacy of so many people has been violated, but I do think whilst they have every right to have them, they are VERY naive to have put them online.

A big issue here is really that Apple has been hacked in a very bad and public way.

Someone on a reddit summed it up quite well I think by saying something along the lines as;

'If someone said to you - 'here is a computer for you which is password protected. It is going to be sat in the middle of Grand Central Station with millions of people able to have direct access to it on a daily basis. Would you put naked pictures of yourself on it? Of course you wouldnt. The cloud is exactly the same.'

Nothing is truly secure on the internet. If you put something on it, you must be willing to accept it is at high risk of being stolen.

If you are going to do nude pictures - polaroids!

Aye, the danger of taking pictures when just out of the shower isn't to be underestimated. Electrocution, water damage to the phone - the latter would tend to invalidate your warranty.

These were (apparently) from hacked icloud accounts. Depending on how it was cracked - social hacking (ie. a password reset by using commonly known details - mothers name, pet, etc.) or a mass bypass of all iCloud security - could have huge ramifications to Apple.

If you're a celebrity, presumably, you'd know you'd be more susceptible to possible hacking - so why keep such photos of yourself on your hard drive?

Unless of course, you wanted them to be found....

I think it's the people involved....this isnt paris hilton or pam anderson. Lawrence is an oscar winner not know for nudity.....Kate Upton is one of the biggest models in the world (literally wink ) and posing covered in millions of baby sports stars.

And its all at once

indeed - I enjoy seeing photos of attractive ladies as much as the next bloke, but I think there are some genuine security concerns here. And if these photos can be accessed so eaily, what esle can?

one of the 'celebs' - can't remember which - claims to have deleted the pix ages ago (or rather, she thought she had)

But they fade and are harder to wipe clean than a computer screen hehe

Quite simply you don't take such pictures or make such videos unless you can be very sure that you control access to them 100%. As said this basically means only one copy and store it on a physical drive with no access to the net.

Of course you are free to ignore the above if you don't have a problem with your images being accessible by all, but if you could charge $5m for flashing your nips on screen (Hallie Berry got $1m in 2000 iirc) it's a bit flucking stupid isn't it!

Really?! Most of the images that I have been sent or seen over the years were take in exactly these sort of situations. Often with a "ready and waiting for you" type caption!

I know. however, I am no 'techy', and don't earn a fraction of these stars earn, but if I had even an inkling that I had files on my hard drive that could be damaging to my career (not that any of those photos would damage a nice looking young female's career - ask Paris Hilton and host of others - not that I put Jennifer Lawrence in that category) I would have that hard drive destroyed and buy another for around £70 a pop!

These pictures weren't on a "hard drive" as such, they were on Apples "iCloud" backup service. Delete pictures from your iPhone, they're still there on the cloud for restoration as and when you want.

Obviously there are some issues with either the specific security used by these celebs (easily guessed password reset questions?) or something fundamentally flawed with the iCloud security.

If I am dating a hot hollywood superstar and my "hey, what you doing?" text is answered "just out of the shower"......you can be pretty sure my response is "pic?"

That said....my assumption is dating a movie start is the same as any random hot person wink

The point of taking a photo like that sort of negates storing it in nuclear secrecy though doesn't it!

Linked to from another forum discussing this

https://github.com/hackappcom/ibrute

"The end of fun, Apple have just patched

Here is appleID password bruteforce pOc. It's only p0c, so there is no

MultiThreading feature
Save-State-On-Exception feature
do it yourself

It uses Find My Iphone service API, where bruteforce protection was not implemented. Password list was generated from top 500 RockYou leaked passwords, which satisfy appleID password policy. Before you start, make sure it's not illegal in your country."

That's an iCloud API that wasn't bruteforce protected apparently. Email address and a password list and there you go...
