The irony with Saudi Arabia.
Lots of rich Saudis head over to Bahrain for the wknd for he whiskey n Asian or Russian 'working girls'
According to friends who have worked in KSA - ... Have experienced wilder booze n sex parties than anywhere - attended by Govt Saudis ( but on private non-local compounds).
So it's 'do as I say' when in public - not 'do as I do in private '
Absolutely. A rugby-playing hard drinking Kiwi I used to work with said he'd never drunk as much alcohol as he did in KSA, simply because so many people had home-brew kits and had bribed the Police.Lots of rich Saudis head over to Bahrain for the wknd for he whiskey n Asian or Russian 'working girls'

As a generalisation Saudis are the most arrogant tits you'll ever meet. People going to mecca have to put up with cr@p constantly. A cousin of mine is out there at the moment helping them to fix Tornados and Typhoons. My cousin is quite a devout muslim and he's said - the way they treat expats - he feels ashamed to be part of the same religion as them.
However there are various perks - I think he said it cost £8 to fill a Landcruiser V8.

The Mrs parents worked out there for a number of years in the '80's. Their opinions on the Saudis are enlightening. Safe to say they will not be going back there.
I know a number of people who have lived and worked out there and again not many of them have much good to say other than "Keep your head down, your mouth shut, cash the cheques and GTFO as soon as you can afford to."
I am sure that it is a lovely place if you are accustomed and in agreement with their laws and customs. If you are not then you really should stay somewhere like the UK where you are fairly sure that your wife will not return home from shopping with serious ankle injuries (inflicted by the religious police using a stick) because her skirt was an inch too high.
I honestly believe in the 'when in Rome' school of thought when visiting and living abroad. It is for that reason I will not set foot on their soil other than by accident of transit.
My dad has worked out there since the 70's. People would call him racist now for his views of the people from there. trouble is they have no idea what they're actually like whereas he has 40 years first hand experience working with them. A st hole by all accounts but they do pay very well so you just have to suck it up! As you say, head down, get on with it and cash out.I know a number of people who have lived and worked out there and again not many of them have much good to say other than "Keep your head down, your mouth shut, cash the cheques and GTFO as soon as you can afford to."

Plus, let's be honest, how much stuff do they buy from us?
£43 billion of weapons systems since 1986 and another £40 billion in new weapons, upgrades and servicing those systems in the future. 72 Eurofighters don't come cheap.plasticpig said:

Maybe if IS started buying weapons off us, we might be a bit more relaxed about them.

Religious Police eh? Can't see an issue with that myself obviously!!
seems strange you would need to enforce Gods will........maybe he's not so omnipotent. you hear me Allah, your a pussy, come down here and berate till etiquette yourself!I've spent a fair bit of time in the Middle East being ex Royal Navy and I was based in Bahrain for the best part of a year. It always amused me to see Saudis act all pious and then on a Friday night be in the Diplomat hotel or BJ's nightclub with a pint of Guinness in one hand and a Chinese we hanging out of the other. Once suitably shedded, then they used to jump into their car and go racing down the highway. Local police always turned a blind eye to it. Very much a case of 'Do what I say, not what I do'. Unfortunately, with the exception of one individual, I never had a positive experience of Saudis.
You can add Russians to that list as well. And no, I'm not a UKIP / BNP supporter. I'm an immigrant! Taking your wimmin etc etc
