For UK as an individual nation todays result could be as significant as VE day was 70 years ago.
The UK has been saved from the destruction the labour - labour snp parties would most definitely have wreaked on it.
It would seem that quite a few of us here, have something to go out and celebrate for, tonight

Comparing today to VE Day? wtf?

What I'm struggling to understand is why, if there was such a huge landslide in favour of SNP, didn't the Scots vote for an independent nation?? Seems a bit backward..........
Not really. Many SNP voters don't want independence, they just think they're better represented in Westminster by the SNP than labour. Voting for the SNP isn't the same thing as voting for independence. Cobnapint said:
Andy Burnham doesn't do very well up against Andrew Neil on the Daily Politics, he comes across as a little boy lost with no gravitas and poor eye makeup.
Chuka Umunna comes across as one of the slimiest of slimey things, and can bullsh*t for a living. I know politicians do their utmost to avoid answering questions, but he takes the p*ss.
Those career politician robots are just more of the same.Chuka Umunna comes across as one of the slimiest of slimey things, and can bullsh*t for a living. I know politicians do their utmost to avoid answering questions, but he takes the p*ss.
I think they have to go even beyond these two and look at some of the candidates unsullied by the past.
They've got a few years now before the election, there's time to be brave and put forward some of the strong
candidates down the list.

I believe this is what the left wing Tspiras government (and those who voted for it) in Greece, thought they could do, just forget the fact that they had taken billions in funding from the various financial bodies of the EU, but then just carry doing what they have been doing for the last 70 years. (e.g virtually f*ck all) and that those who had lent them the cash, would just forget about it too.
No chance!. If millipede had got in, something like this might have been on the cards for the UK.
Unfortunately Millipede would not have been the first labour UK Prime Minister who had to go cap in hand to the IMF for a bail out, Callaghan holds that record. Thank heavens the UK has again been pulled back from the brink of financial destruction by a labour government. The people of the UK saw the very real danger of this and voted accordingly.
David Plunkett said the British electorate always gets it right on the day so fair play to him for that.No chance!. If millipede had got in, something like this might have been on the cards for the UK.

I feared the Unions where waiting in the wings and a severe swing to the far left was on the cards, the outcome of that would have been disasterous.
What's the betting that the next leader is a union stooge as well? Who would that be?
I'm not sure why but I can't help but feel sorry for Ed. He seemed like a decent guy (apart from stabbing his own brother in the back). He was pretty badly treated by the media except the BBC of course.
I wouldn't vote for him because labour had shifted a bit left and he kept sounding like he thought anyone with a job and aspirations was the enemy.
Labour also he too many people like balls and cooper hanging around to make me think they weren't the same idiots that mismanaged the economy last time.
I'll miss seeing ed on the telly, I wonder if there's a future for Ed doing TV like Portillo does. He seems a pretty likeable guy, I'd like to see him doing some travel or history stuff and struggling to eat bacon rolls etc.
