Weren't we told that Cameron should resign immediately if it was a yes? By the same logic shouldn't Salmond resign having lost?

Is anyone else just really pleased/proud to be part of a country that allows such freedom of speech and democracy? With all the troubles around the world, seeing a decisive decision being handled purely democratically is just re-assuring overall.

We will see a lot of nationalistic emotion was kicked up and Salmond did a great job of putting a wedge between communities. Plus I'm sure there was a Russian in Scotland during this vote so that gives Putin grounds to come and do some liberating.

I see some of the conspiracy theories have begun: Dundee Count fire alarm (allowing votes to be tampered with), fraudulent votes in Glasgow, and the BBC coverage clearly showing a pile of (uncounted) Yes voting ballots sitting on No table at one of the counts. These claims are a bit desperate.
Was it ever going to be any different in the event of a no vote - nationalism hardly goes hand in hand with being magnanimous in defeat.

At least the people responsible for printing victim cards will be kept in a job for a little while longer.

Why would he resign? He has to push for the powers promised. His job has just begun. Quitting now would be failing Scotland. This wasn't a school playground punch up.

Like any relationship breakup the Scots aren't happy (I expect a majority voted No because the uncertainty, but that doesn't mean they are happy about it) We have a lot of work to do to maintain the partnership, something Westminster took for granted. We can do this by voting for the party who genuinely prioritises Scotland in the next election.

Agreed.

Fluff, thank you for all your posts. Your insight has meant that I've learnt a lot about other views, and explored my own to seek justification, and sometimes realignment.

All the best.

So, yesterday Salmond said this was a "Once in a lifetime opportunity," now he's saying "Scotland has decided, at this stage, not to become independent." Make your mind up man!

I don't see it like that. OK there was some heckling and gobbing off on both sides, but I think the Yes side was more vocal because it was the voice of frustration, and the voice of youth - who at the base level will always be louder than your typical middle aged conservative voter. To have a campaign over something as massive as independence, with 80-90 percent of people turning out, to have no trouble, no (real) fighting, OK a few eggs were being thrown and a couple of people jostled, but compared to independence issues around the world - in recent history and not very far at all from our shores - this has been a fantastic, well run, VERY well behaved campaign. We have all seen how emotional people on both sides have been - Wiggly and VP/XJS/PCV etc as an example - yet it's been inclusive, relatively balanced, and for the most part peaceful.

I'm glad to have experienced it, and I think it's a good example to the rest of the world.

Please enlighten me as to just why the feck I should do this? Scotland is not a priority any more so than is Wales, Northern Ireland, or England for that matter. This is just pandering to the victim mentality peddled by the Yes campaign and the SNP in general. What makes Scotland any more deserving than any other part of the Union?

Yes! I was just about to write the same thing.
It is partial democracy.

Only 10% of the UK voted.

A huge 90% of the United Kingdom (UK) was denied a vote in disuniting the kingdom (DK).

What do you mean by that though. Scotland has been prioritised - but apparently not to the level that some would like.

Some would say that because of Barnett, Devolution, The West Lothian Question, The number of MPs per head capita in Westminster, the ability to elect your own parliament, huge numbers of public sector jobs, ship building contracts etc - not to mention the referendum itself - that Scotland has been given more than enough attention over the years - and has been "prioritised" well above many areas of the UK by successive governments - including this one.

If Cameron pulls off the double of maintaining the Union and resolving the West Lothian question favourably (ie in England's favour, which means in the Tories' favour and against Labour's interests), he will have pulled off a master stroke of immense proportions.

He just needs the boundary commission to sort things out (Nick Clegg, fk you) for the Holy Trinity.

One of the many problems with the lottery - arming the stupid with money! Happily their donation just turned out to be a bonfire of £50's!
