That's the thing - the BBC won't pull out of Freesat. Given the massive drive to get everybody switched over to digital before the analogue signal is switched off, there's no way that they will pull out of Freesat as the uproar would be ridiculous. Given that it's not possible to stop Scotland receiving the satellite signal, all the BBC could do, would be to stop producing region specific Scottish content. Scotland could still continue to get the exact same BBC channels that I can get in London - and it's impossible to stop it!
Why not just switch the BBC to an encrypted service on freesat?I cant imagine there are many folks out there that dont have a digital enabled TV or freeview box.
Edit.
Apparently there are only 2.1 million freesat users in the whole of the UK

But for many of those 2.1 million, Freesat will be the only way that it is possible for them to receive FTA digital broadcasts (due to Freeview reception issues). There is no way that they're going to pull the BBC Freesat transmissions just because Scotland goes independent. Given that the government has just spent millions getting people to switch to digital, the political fall out of cutting off a service would be huge. It'd be the very definition of cutting your nose off to spite your face.FredClogs said:
As far as I can tell Salmond's independent Scotland will be some sort of minority rule socialist republic, so I imagine they'll just import RT and some Belarusian soap operas and make do with pirating all the good stuff from British TV.
I imagine watching the BBC will be at least five years in the re-education centre Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
