Great. It's bad enough the kids being obsessed by it, now they'll be pestering me because it's stopped working and has become more crap with every new version.

Should be a poll:
Who's kids are "lost" to Minecraft?
or
Parents - are you perplexed by Minecraft?
I cast around at work for like-minded support. There was a lot. There were also a number of sheepish looks from members of our web dev team who are addicted players too. Helped me understand the idea a bit more and set me right on the possibilities of the educational aspects of it. And do you know what?... my lad has started to learn some computing concepts because of the game.
I still limit his time on the computer though. He does need to see the world outside of the game, and he does tend to become so invested in Minecraft that he is irritable when he's not in the game. We balance this by limiting the exposure which seems to work. Sometimes though, we have to take it away for a couple of days to "reset" his personality. That seems to work, and I know he's working hard at not becoming a typical addict though I suspect his investment in the game will become greater as he moves into his teens in 3 years.

My son suggested that we put Minecraft on my XBox, so we could have father and son sessions.
5 minutes in, and I was wondering WTF was going on. We have not played it since.
I've played all sorts of games over the years, from the ZX81, Megadrive, PS1, XBox 360, etc. and totally fail to understand the fuss over Minecraft.

Minecraft is awesome, my 7 year old girl loves it, although she's a bit young and scatter brained to really go deep into it but I've lost many, many hours playing it. It is essentially just digital lego, I can see Microsoft doing good things with the idea, but like second life and various other cult games that broke through something else will come along to capture the mainstream and it'll be let back to the hardcore fans in a year or so.

I'm curious as to how they are going to make the money back.
Minecraft 2 I guess.
Minecraft 8. Except no one will like it and it won't sell.Minecraft 2 I guess.
But seriously they will, I imagine, limit Minecraft to MS platforms. Which they probably need to do because they are losing out to competitors at the moment.
Not according to Phil Spencer. It wouldn't make any sense to keep it to just Microsoft platforms considering how popular it's become.

He sounds like Jimmy Carr. The channel gets more views than One Direction and the creator produces a video every day. I'm personally pretty impressed with Garrett's drive. But yes, the videos are a bit of an acquired taste.

I don't think Microsoft can stop them? And it's unlikely also as the public backlash wouldn't be good.Didn't Nintendo try to claim a portion of profits from a popular streamers on youtube ?
From what I've read the whole Minecraft development team (all 3 of them) will leave after the sale is complete.
Notch is a hypocrite given his public stance on the Oculus Rift Facebook sale.

There was talk that he was moving to LA to work with Jack Black, but he's still in the UK so the takeover may have something to do with that.

Everybody with a youtube channel is earning at least that. It's rumoured...There was talk that he was moving to LA to work with Jack Black, but he's still in the UK so the takeover may have something to do with that.
