Will Scotland be more entreprenurial after a yes?
Discussion
I am just a little curious about this, the SNP and The Yes vote keep saying Scotland will be more successful after a yes vote and independence, how are they expecting this to happen?
Are they expecting a sudden surge in entrepreneurs to appear overnight and start creating jobs and wealth? If this the case then why haven't these people who are no doubt self motivated already started up and getting on with it?

Are they planning to encourage business by lowering (don't laugh) corporation and small business tax?
Thats right, they are going to cut taxes whilst spending more at the time their absence of a currency makes it more expensive, or even impossible, to borrow. It would work well.

After the economy of Scotland goes into a terminal tailspin, where is the money going to come from to lend to these entrepreneurial startups? Alex Salmond is telling Scotland to take dinner off the plate and put a dog turd there instead, worse, it seems half of Scotland are thick enough to believe they can eat dog st and survive with the lifestyle they currently enjoy.
Voting to become independent is voting to become a developing country. It's blind ultra-nationalism that had fobbed half of the Scots into thinking this is a good idea.
A lot will depend on the colour of Scotland after the vote.
The suggestion has been that it will leap to the left but I've got my doubts, especially after talking to a Scottish mate.
He is of the opinion that a significant number of people vote labour/left purely because they see it as a way of sticking two fingers up to 'the English' and also as it gives them a certain amount of pull. With things being so finely balanced in parliament, the number of labour MPs could be important.
Once a vote for the left starts to cost, then I reckon most will reconsider their socialist credentials and go for the middle ground.
I'm told - but have no personal knowledge - the the SWP, in its last bastion in the UK, have been courted by the SNP (along with other minority groups). Once the votes are in then I would guess that the SNP will need, and look for, different friends.
If I'm wrong and Scotland does leap to the left then there is little likelihood of anyone risking everything to open a business in a country where there is a high taxation rate.
That said, a new country starting up, looking for the necessities, will be a magnate for carpet baggers.

Well no doubt a thriving black market will soon appear, selling smuggled luxuries from over the border - tinned fruit, soap, Iphones - that sort of thing. Hard cash only mind, none of your groats here. Derek
Valid point about Scottish politics changing if/when it's self funded. That will be interesting to see.
As for the middle ground though - that's the alarming and scary thing about Scottish politics. Labour is the most "right wing" party with a foothold in Scotland. Labour.
And mostly old Labour. Gordon Brown and his ilk. Forget UKIP dragging that whole awful idea of reality back into politics. Forget the Tories aspiring to such idealistic nonsense as a balanced budget.
I know you're a bit of lefty but can you imagine a country where the Labour left is the middle ground? That is Scotland.

Its an easy statement to make without any substance
How do you make more people entrepreneurial? Is it better education - I'd say no its much more pure talent or ability or pure luck. What you can do is make a country financially rewarding for them to come and live so low taxes for already wealthy people.

The remaining Uk will take a beating but you will dump a massive labour left vote. The conservaties will stand a better chance and the Uk could then thrive. (if you can get away from the EU)Valid point about Scottish politics changing if/when it's self funded. That will be interesting to see.

Thought it's more down to mindset. Dunno if you can teach mindset to someone. Some people are born to do 9-to-5 (nothing wrong with it, of course).Hoofy said:
