Blizzard, a video game company, are facing massive lashback for suspending a professional video gamer and stripping him of his prize money for saying "Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our time" when given the opportunity to say anything on broadcast. The two (Taiwanese) broadcast hosts also have been sacked.

It's absolutely exploded on reddit. People are deleting their Blizzard accounts and organising boycotts. A Chinese in-game character is being depicted and associated with the HK protests in an attempt to get the game banned in China and punish Blizzard.

Not the type of story you normally get on here, but I think it's interesting just how widespread and sincerely held the support for HK is.

ETA: Apparently so many people are deleting their accounts that Blizzard have actually had to prevent people from being able to do so laugh

Yet again the big tech companies side with the Chinese regime.

“ Apple Inc. and Google both removed apps associated with Hong Kong’s antigovernment protests from their digital stores in recent days, thrusting the two Silicon Valley giants into the controversy engulfing U.S. companies related to the unrest.”

70 year old frustration with HK protestors
Could be. The alternative thing is older people never were very much into the protests in general. Partly cultural (respecting authority), but partly that they like many countries have been the ones to benefit over their life from the increased house prices etc.

When there I spoke to quite a few young protesters, and several things surprised me. One was that they know their protests will damage the economy etc - that is deliberate as it's basically the only way to get noticed. They know it will damage their future, they may lose their jobs etc, but were willing to pay the price if needs be. That's not to say they will deliberately do it (hence masks etc), but that if they get caught it's worth it.

The thing for a lot of them is that there is around 7.5 million people, I think it was around 2 million that had the ability to become British if I remember it right, and another 2 million which had some other right. They would only do that as a last resort. But a lot won't have that option even if they wanted to. So a lot view the future as pretty screwed anyway once it becomes part of China relative to what they have now.

This doesn't seem to be going away for Blizzard.

Violence seems to have moved to a new level today with the shooting and now someone being SET ON FIRE! Heartbreaking seeing such a wonderful city spiralling out of control like this.

Automated racism - it's the future in China, today! No wonder HK want to keep their distance! I'm sure your social credit score would get a nice little boost if you set up your own Uyghur detecting CCTV network. Sounds like something Hitler would have absolutely loved.

Still, China is big business, and at least they can bring their genocide cash back to the West to espouse woke values smile

Pro democracy candidates have just biffed most of the government candidates in Hong Kong's council elections. The elections have been seen as a sort of referendum on the government of the SAR.

I wonder what difference it will really make over the next few years...

Via State Media (so that's all of it there then) China is reporting that pro-government supporters, or 'patriotic supporters' as the government calls them, were harassed and the election had 'meddling Western influence'.

So nothing to do with people rebelling against China's flawed totalitarian state principals at all!

Now doesn't that sound familiar, I wonder were we've heard that sort of line before?

Perhaps from another load of power hunger control freak toss pots.

Remainers? hehe

I digress.... anyhooo, these election results won't make a lick of difference I think. I think the Art of War is getting a thorough flogging on both sides but the side with the most resources will win in the end. It has been a solid effort by the HK'ers - if it was a western country it would have been done and dusted after two weeks and with more surveillance slipped in. Epstein didn't kill himself.
