Well there is nothing like being prepared and with articles like this one:

http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/heavy-storms-...

With its helpful information such as "The conditions could pose problems for commuters in affected areas in the morning rush hour"
It is clear that forewarned is for armed.
So as well as serving as a useful alert for other PH'ers to share travel tips and advise of areas to avoid ( as my well respected Stormaggedon Mk 3 thread did) this thread could serve as a useful tip sharing post to help other PH'ers prepare for the path of destruction.

Please use it don't abuse it with general posts such as avoid Blackpool as it's a dump " type posts. This is serious stuff.
Pictures of the destruction caused are also invited.

So basically........were going to have a bit of rain, and it might be windy. Oh dear, anyone would think we live in Britain and it's October!

more non-news bks. It'll be wet with some heavier patches of rain, aka typical autumnal weather - hardly cause for alarm is it?

Also known as autumn but doesn't sound as dramatic.

I remember 2nd October last year was atrocious as we went out for my dad's birthday. Nothing like that so far this October.

Sorry to hear that.
Family get togethers can be fraught with tension and simmering rivalries. smile
Buit we are here to discuss the atrocious weather we will be getting and what steps to take to avoid having to swim for it.

As there is not enough doom and gloom in this thread I feel justified in bringing you news of this:

70mph winds cut power to 2,000 Cumbrian homes

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-29503...

It's the start of the wrath of nature.

TBF I was the one who moaned about the cold, I was trying to do detailed work and my hands kept shaking, so we agreed heating can go on.

We have had it turned off since April though. And it is North East Scotland in early October.

The end is nigh!

One of the guys in my team is working from home today as his lift in decided not to come in either because of the 'storms'. The guy on my team didn't want to do the walk to the bus-stop in the 'conditions'. I told him to wait until we get some really weather and then see how he gets on.

My commute in this morning was 35 mins longer than normal - it's usually about 30 mins. Not due to weather but because of a set of lights surrounding a small patch of cones that had sprung up over the weekend...

What happens to this guy in your team now?

does he loose a days pay/leave?

i'm a postie and despite the fact were highly unionised we'd loose pay/holiday and get a massive piss taking if we pulled a stunt like that, when the majority of staff got into work.

There has been only one time when I have not gone into work due to the weather; 2009 or 2010 when we had that really bad snow, it was about a foot and a half deep, I drive 13 miles to work and I wasn't even going to attempt to get the car going.

Some people are just lazy and will find any excuse not to do something that they don't particularly want to do.

Came home to find the heating on. Claims she was only testing it to make sure it alright for the winter. So I suppose she'll be 'testing' it tomorrow and everyday until spring then rolleyes

Seriously, what is it with women and their internal thermostats? Hers must have been broke when leaving the factory!
