your not wrong, UK governments have done a lot of selling the country short, going back as far as the 60's canceling just about any project that was potentially leading the world in everything from aviation to industrial process design etc.
selling the nuclear assets to Toshiba (Westinghouse), and the rest of BNG to the yanks (Envirocare) and the remaining civilian reactors to EDF was criminal, made worse when we then go back to EDF and co to build the next nuc at a cost that's just stupendous.
British history is littered with world leading technology and assets sacrificed by lame stupid politicians.
About the only one they got right was supporting Rolls Royce over the RB2-11 project.

Made me laugh today watching breakfast time on BBC, they were on Tyneside watching a ship unload Coal which had been imported from Russia! wtf! All those pits which were shut down in the UK in the early 80s
Tragic. the communities that then tore each other apart and the unemployment that followed. Its about time this country started looking after itself.
I'm starting to come round to the idea that there are some industries that are worth protecting, although I'm generally against protectionism. Industries vital to fuel the country, and build things (ships)... so fuel (coal), steel/iron and aluminium refining perhaps. Better to pay over the odds for people to work and sustain these industries than pay them to do nothing.Tragic. the communities that then tore each other apart and the unemployment that followed. Its about time this country started looking after itself.
I know we live in a Global market, but if I am honest I would rather NOT live in a global market, I would rather have us all working for our Country first and not be reliant on imports, we need to look at different sources of energy, be it water power or something else. Im not at all keen on the Fracking idea, splitting rocks to get out gas sounds like a recipe for an environmental disaster and having seen some documentaries about the pitfalls in the USA, it makes me very worried. Water is life and if fracking buggers that up we have no chance.. Oh I know, Yet more importing from France!
Thatcher was out to smash the unions at any cost, sadly she did it. Not saying the industries didn't need a massive shake up, because they did. but the price paid was far too high IMO.

As for your ideas on energy, they are again little more than pie in the sky IMO. BTW regarding FRACKING you do realise that we have been carrying out comparable processes, for different resources, for decades don't you? And whilst they've not been without issue, they have been very beneficial over all.
Finally, again IMO thatcher was right to hit the unions, they were the biggest danger to our economy back in the 70s and were, maybe still are, a driver behind our lack of ability to manufacture. I'm not saying unions don't have a place but British unions are hardly a shining example of the ilk.

A flyer was pushed through my letterbox today. It gave details of my local UKIP Parliamentary Candidate. I read it. Every word. How sad is that. Guess what. I actually liked what I read.
Now there's a thing!
Regarding selling off the Nation's "Family Silver" into Alien control, please do not knock it. It's one of the few things we have excelled at since and including Thatcher. ...

If that is what you believe, it should not matter who is in power.
And to a large extent, it doesn't. UK governments have to engage in realpolitik, which often overrides their notional ideals and principles - read more or less any autobiography or memoir of a senior politician for evidence. The British seem to value stability and continuity over everything, which is why populist parties don't tend to do well in the long term, and we consistently vote for centrist parties.fatboy18 said:

It's the question that brought us here. You know the question, just as I did.
What is the EU?
This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You vote 'In', the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you are told to believe.
You vote 'out' - you stay an Independent Sovereign State and I show you just how big the World Market really is....
Your choice.

As has been many times before the problem for the Conservatives is not UKIP, but their very own policy's and the fact that people do not trust Cameron.
Once again a Kipper attributing the beliefs of Kippers to everyone. There are loads of polls that show Cameron is trusted more than most of the party leaders. For example
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/11356236/...
There are polls showing he is trusted in Scotland more than Miliband (hardly his prime voting base) and more trusted on the NHS.
Or in this one he is trusted more than Farage on Europe and immigration
https://www.ipsos-mori.com/researchpublications/re...
Can you point to any polls (outside Kipper community) that show Farage is more trusted than Cameron?
Axionknight said:
So why are people taking their votes elsewhere?
A small proportion are. But one can hardly say that is because Cameron is not trusted, when he is trusted more than the parties they are moving to.
Those particular people may decide to trust Farage more, but that is a very different thing, and I would suggest it has in reality far more to do with the fact that those people share the same priorities as Farage (EU and immigration) than anything else.
Indeed it is extremely remarkable that more labour voters trust Cameron & Osbourne than Miliband and Balls on the economy.
About the only leading politician to beat cameron on trust scores is Boris interestingly.
Still 185?
Boris and Farage are way out front in the most recent study looking into 'Britains most Trusted Politician'
CMD, Clegg and Milli are all slithering together.
Only a 33,000 person global survey.....

EtA, ffs! Here is me getting all excited thinking I have found the study to end all studies and its detailed in Torygraph link above.

Most well minded people would trust Ronald Mcdonald with our nations finances rather than those Labour incompetents. But one can hardly say that is because Cameron is not trusted, when he is trusted more than the parties they are moving to.

Well if they do have the same priorities as Farage as you say (EU and immigration), no wonder they are abandoning the Tories, who have failed to deliver any wholesale EU reform, or offer a referendum, or indeed cut net migration to "tens of thousands".
They must all feel very let down.

Trust to do what is right or anything else and he plummets
I want politicans who do the right thing, not just spout plausible platitudes and sound-bites
