Think it's a damning indictment on our current attitude to freedom of speech that she's been charged. I don't support her views in any way, shape or form but being a gobby idiot should not be a criminal offence.
Completely agree. They'd have been better to let people, decide for themselves the actual context of it and if unhappy, let her know what they think. BJG1 said:

I kind of agree, can't say I'm offended by what she said, I simply think she's an idiot. But that said I also suspect that if I'd tweeted something with #killallasianwomen I'd be in trouble pretty quickly - and given the girl spends a lot of time campaigning for equality, it only seems fair that's what she should get.
Now a student union has banned 2 journalists from participating in a debate on censorship because they don't agree with some of their views. You couldn't make this up.

The student union at the U.K.’s University of Manchester has banned Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos and Guardian journalist Julie Bindel from participating in a debate on censorship.
The school’s Free Speech and Secular Society student group had invited the journalists to a debate titled “From liberation to censorship: Does modern feminism have a problem with free speech?” But the Students' Union demanded the event be postponed until the free speech group removes Mr. Yiannopoulos and Ms. Bindel from the ticket.

I disagree profoundly with the way that the law is being used to restrict freedom of expression. However, what is worse than doing that is doing it in a partisan manner, so I think that if we are going to prosecute people for this kind of behaviour, it is correct that she is treated in the same way.
She will get off with it.BlackLabel said:

leaving aside the irony there I'm surprised that they don't want a Gruan journo to pitch up...article said:

Charges dropped against the #killallwhitemen student union rep due to not enough evidence.... !?!?
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/nov/03/bahar...
The mental said “I, as an ethnic minority woman, cannot be racist or sexist towards white men, because racism and sexism describe structures of privilege based on race and gender,”
So apparently you are now allowed to tweet anything to anyone, personal abuse, threats, you name it. As it doesn't constitute enough evidence to prosecute and you can use this case as an example.
Robert Sharp of the writers’ association English PEN said “It’s a shame this investigation took so long to conclude, but the police are working with laws that are no longer fit for purpose. These charges were brought under communications legislation that was written for fax machines, not social media. The law needs an urgent update.”
Until they update the law.

Same charge against this woman (who I suspect is just as thick as pigst) went to court.

It genuinely scares me that things like that are going to court. http://www.southwales-eveningpost.co.uk/Centre/sto...
Back at Goldsmiths Uni where the Islamic Society is moaning because the Atheist, Secularist and Humanist Society invited a speaker who is an ex Muslim and is critical about her former faith.
Funnily enough I can't remember this society issuing a statement to condemn the diversity officer Bahar Mustafa's behaviour.
The societies response moaning that people were chucked out although they fail to mention the disruptive behaviour.

the speaker in question said:
After my talk began, ISOC “brothers” started coming into the room, repeatedly banging the door, falling on the floor, heckling me, playing on their phones, shouting out, and creating a climate of intimidation in order to try and prevent me from speaking.
I continued speaking as loudly as I could. They repeatedly walked back and forth in front of me. In the midst of my talk, one of the ISOC Islamists switched off my PowerPoint and left. The University security had to intervene and remain in the room as I continued my talk.
Eventually the thug who had switched off my PowerPoint returned and continued his harassments. At this point, I stood my ground, screamed loudly and continued insisting that he be removed even when the security said he should stay because he was a student. When he was finally escorted out of the meeting, discussions on many issues from apostasy, the veil to Islamism and Sharia laws continued, including with some of the ISOC “sisters” who remained behind.
