NUS refuse to condemn ISIS
Discussion
That the NUS at numerous universities has disappeared into a morass of politically confused thinking; the students are coming through - and still being educated within - a state system which is riddled with the worst sort of well-meaning but ultimately dangerous groupthink. The totalitarianism of ideals and the way diversity of opinion and culture are quashed is sinister in the extreme.

The NUS has always been politically confused.Has something actually changed in recent years? As far as I can remember only a handful of people ever really cared about the Union or societies, for the most part any interest in the Union was restricted to alcohol and even then it wasn't particularly high up the list.
So the stupid views and shouting are nothing new, I don't even think any more people are paying attention to them. The only change might be that some people have become so reluctant to cause offence that the views of a handful of noisy nutters actually get acted on.

That's putting it mildly! And this is what the President Of Goldsmiths Islamic Society (who tweets under the handle @Mopey96) thinks about gay people:
said:
Goldsmiths Islamic Society (ISOC) President Muhammed Patel has resigned from his position after a motion of no confidence.
The society released a statement via its Facebook page today and although the group did not say what allegations were attributed to Patel that led to his resignation, it is believed that the President published a series of homophobic messages via his Twitter account, which has recently been deleted.

A video popped up on my news feed in FB with, i think, the leader of the Muslim uni group posing a question to a Jewish Professor/talker. Long Story short - he asked her if she would condemn a ME terrorist group (Hezb i think) and if she agreed with all Jews should be sent to Isreal to make them an easier target and not have to be hunted (some terrorists words). She said no to the first part and yes to the second.
Was an American uni though

It does get confusing/amusing when one of their favoured protected groups is intolerant of another.
No surprises that the NUS was where Ed Miliband cut his political teeth.
"Alice laughed: "There's no use trying," she said; "one can't believe impossible things."No surprises that the NUS was where Ed Miliband cut his political teeth.
"I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was younger, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."
Truly in wonderland. Sooner or later you would hope the penny will drop that some perspectives are mutually incompatible but I suspect that right now the motivating animus is since everything associated with Western Gov = bad it follows Muslim Islamist = good. They do really need to realise that that old Arabic adage "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" is in fact totally and utterly wrong.
