Remember 31/3/90? The Poll Tax Riots? (Personally, I recall the Strangeways Riot the day after, but that's just me... redface )

I was at Sussex Uni, and several (a majority, as perceived at the time, though this could be wrong redface ) of the NUS Officers therefrom (is that a word, or am I being doubly oxymoronic nuts ) featured in the media with scarves around the lower areas of their faces (they were easily recognised nonetheless wink )...

Arguably not good days from a political viewpoint, with big dollops of added hindsight scratchchin - but when one of the main players (an NUS committee member) has the middle name "Thor" you can be assured that the job is fcensoredd until the next election - regardless frown !!

Here's the latest from the NUS.

Feminist conference says clapping ‘triggers anxiety,’ asks attendees to use ‘jazz hands’ instead

article said:
A U.K. student feminism conference is asking attendees to refrain from clapping and use “jazz hands” instead so as to not trigger anxiety in others.

The National Union of Students (NUS) Women’s Campaign announced the clapping “ban” at the West Midlands conference on Twitter Tuesday, shortly after receiving a request from the Oxford University Women’s Campaign.

“@nuswomcam please can we ask people to stop clapping but do feminist jazz hands? it’s triggering some peoples’ anxiety. thank you!” Oxford representatives wrote.

Or the given name, 'Typheon'. I mean, what working class father calls his son Typheon?

Of course, it was 'Ty' at Sussex.

in the argot of US students 'LUG' means lesbian until graduation

in the UK it means 'leftie until graduation'

the way the NUS conducts itself is one of the biggest adverts for raising the voting age back to 21 rather than lowering it to 16 as the left desire in their endless quest to buy votes ( having been brought up on such by the folklore of the Labour party and the trades union movement )

I find it funny when the NUS quote their membership numbers when "justifying" their views.

I would say the vast majority of students (and I was in this pot when at uni) join the NUS for one reason, and one reason only, and that is to get into the student union bars.
Access to bars and the sports club paid for me to go race my mountainbike places thumbup

It also discriminates against blind people, because they won't know how the audience is reacting to the speech

that's an interesting one the way in which the favoured BUSA sports get away with all sorts and continue to get money firehosed at them despite the fact they do NOTHING to increase participation, because they run themselves like lower league pro club , unlike other clubs or the socieities side of student activities...
