Feminist conference says clapping ‘triggers anxiety,’ asks attendees to use ‘jazz hands’ instead
I bet some people come up with utter crap like this just to troll and see if the union are stupid enough to carry it.Feminist conference says clapping ‘triggers anxiety,’ asks attendees to use ‘jazz hands’ instead

A U.K. student feminism conference is asking attendees to refrain from clapping and use “jazz hands” instead so as to not trigger anxiety in others.
The National Union of Students (NUS) Women’s Campaign announced the clapping “ban” at the West Midlands conference on Twitter Tuesday, shortly after receiving a request from the Oxford University Women’s Campaign.
“@nuswomcam please can we ask people to stop clapping but do feminist jazz hands? it’s triggering some peoples’ anxiety. thank you!” Oxford representatives wrote.

The stamping down on applauding seems like a good cause to me. Morons applauding at any old thing ruin any political debate I've watched in the past few weeks and always on QT. Let the soundless gurning catch on, so good points aren't lost, and treadlers aren't saved by the rapturous applause of many sycophants.
More fked up student politics.

White people and men told 'please don't come' to student protest against inequality
A student group has been accused of sexism and racism for banning all men and white people from attending an equality event.
Goldsmiths University student union have been slammed after refusing to allow anybody that isn't a non-white female from attending the event - organised to protest against inequality and celebrate racial unity.
The event, which took place on Wednesday, was organised by Welfare and Diversity officer Bahar Mustafa.
The event at the University of London college, claimed to be "challenging the white-centric culture of occupations", "diversifying our curriculum" and building a "cross-campus campaign that puts liberation at the heart of the movement".

I don't think I ever joined as a student. Couldn't be bothered with 'em.
Pointless organisation. It's not a real Union in the proper sense of an organisation of workers joining together to collectively challenge the excesses of an employer against the individual.
In my view this is the function of Unions. The students aren't employed.

'I can't be racist because I'm an ethnic minority woman', says Goldsmiths university diversity officer embroiled in racism row
article said:
In a statement read out to fellow students, she accused the media of embarking on a "witch hunt and shameful character assassination".
She said: "There have been charges laid against me that I am racist and sexist towards white men.
"I, an ethnic minority woman, cannot be racist or sexist towards white men, because racism and sexism describe structures of privilege based on race and gender.
"Therefore, women of colour and minority genders cannot be racist or sexist, since we do not stand to benefit from such a system.”
In a seven-minute statement, she also accused people who "benefit from white supremacy" of "clinging on" to power and added: "We are not going down without as fight."
She said: "Reverse racism and reverse sexism are not real.
"We will not be silenced; we are militant. The world is not ready for minorities to challenge the status quo, but resistance to our resistance is futile."
Her speech drew applause from a crowd of students gathered at an event at Goldsmith's in New Cross last week
