I am guessing that if we banned Chelsea FC tomorrow, the overwhelming majority of football fans would be absolutely delighted.
A small minority would be upset. So given that the numbers supporting them it is a small minority anyway, we are talking about upsetting a tiny minority of football fans. And pleasing far more.
Ps. Just because a person says it's his choice, doesn't mean it's true. He could well be too brainwashed to say otherwise.

'When they came for Chelsea, I said nothing, as I was not a Chelsea fan.
When they cam for Man City, I said nothing, as I was not a City fan...'

Tyranny of the majority.
Ironically, we have that coming as their numbers grow. I suspect we will look back on our kind of 'tyranny' with some fondness. Can I drink a beer in the theatre in Saudi Arabia?
Is that racist or christianaphobic?
I suppose the best thing for me to do as a beer drinking white western male is to not visit Saudi Arabia as I don't expect them to change their beliefs and culture to accommodate mine, ho hum that's no great loss really, is it too much to ask that Muslims respect western beliefs and culture in the same way.

Are your personal beliefs and culture really that weak that they're influenced by what somebody else chooses to wear ?
Also, FWIW, there isn't some homogeneous western belief and culture. We are all different.
So we need to behave in a way to accommodate people who refuse to accommodate us????Also, FWIW, there isn't some homogeneous western belief and culture. We are all different.

Is that equality?
"Also, FWIW, there isn't some homogeneous western belief and culture. We are all different."
Sorry edit to add does that statement suggest that Muslims in Muslim country's are homogenous and are not all different?

I think the number of ways that you can be "different" in strict Muslim countries are somewhat circumscribed; if you would like to retain the nominal number of extremities, at least.pete a said:

How are you"accommodating" other people by letting them dress the way they want to? What right do you have to dictate how somebody else dresses? Do others have the right to decide how you dress? Or how about what you drive? So MrS Green Party suggests that your 911/AMG/CSL is noisy, antisocial and frightens her kids? Should we insist you drive a Micra? Yes, there are various totalitarian States that decide what a woman can or cannot wear. If you want to live under that kind of regime then feel free to move there. Is that equality?

Nope - they're different as well. So if any of them were to suggest that there was some single homogeneous cultures that others MUST abide by, they would also be talking out of their arsenal.Sorry edit to add does that statement suggest that Muslims in Muslim country's are homogenous and are not all different?

No. It was a figure of speech. Someone said to me the other day that there's nothing worse than getting a cold on holiday, I immediately thought of several things. I trust this illustrates the difference between a figure of speech and a euphemism sufficiently.
If you were discussing terminal cancer, and they chucked in "there's nothing worse than getting a cold", you wouldn't think that was a stupid thing to say?TwigtheWonderkid said:

QuiteBy accommodating I mean that in most Muslim ruled countries around the world I am told exactly what I can and can't and can do, how I can dress, what I can drink, who I can kiss, who I can fk, what my wife must wear when sunbathing, that no I can't have bacon for breakfast etc etc etc... They don't accommodate me and what I want, I have to fit in to their society.
And guess what, I'm fine with that, as a guest in their country I should respect their laws and ways or don't visit or go there.
Why can't Muslims do this in other countries they end up in when they expect it in their own country??? No really and I'd like you to address this very important point.
WHY?
I mean we don't have these issues with Chinese folks do we, they go to work and get on with it, and do their own thing in private, I've never heard anyone be negative about Chinese immigration or customs .

QuiteEta, I see I'm not the only one who is apparently stupid for disagreeing with you. Speaks volumes, you want to ban things to save people from themselves and everyone who disagrees is thick. Says it all frankly.

Muslims are just the foreign bogeymen du jour. There was a point (somewhere around the end of the 19 century) where the Chinese were viewed with quite a bit of suspicion. It was all opium dens and debauchery back then - at least according to the press...Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
