So please answer me Why ??
Because the costs (not just financial) of keeping him locked up outweigh the benefits, perhaps?

Do you think he will be a useful productive member of society on the outside ?

Will he get employment, or will he be housed at our expense, and given benefits to live on ?

Would probably also need some kind of supervision / help to integrate back in to society.

I would guess it would probably cost the taxpayer more to release him.

I don't know; I merely offered a possible answer to your query.

But why ??

He was sentenced to LIFE. His victims families are still suffering the consequences of the crime, and he shows no remorse.

So please answer me Why ??
I will happily answer this .

We are a society and a reflection of that society is in how we treat the people who would do us wrong . To remove his life after a trial would be to entrust someone to be accurate without fault in the justification in taking that life . Can a human be infallible ? can you trust judges not to be screaming retards or simply deluded ? of course not and to allow the state to have the ability to therefore murder its subjects is very very questionable . If it were 100% without fault then yes slaughter him and harvest his organs but look back over the years with so many cases of the po-LICE corrupting evidence then its clear that the system can not be trusted .

Of course not , the world as he knows it will be nothing as he remembers , it died to him many years ago

He is 78 , of course he wont work , and of course he has never paid in to justify taking out , thats understandable given hes been in prison the last 5 decades

Now this demonstrates your clearly clueless at the process but emotional driven . I can appreciate this.
He will be released to a hostel where he will be under very very close supervision by the probation service , the hostel itself and the police . The likelihood of being recalled to prison is very very high . His remaining years will be very lonely and miserable surrounded by reprobates and disenchanted people of power doing his best not to put a foot wrong . It is very likely he may ask to go back as most long term people simply cant cope with the outside world

No its cheaper to have him out than in by about 5-6 times .

Agree. He is a piece of st but he has more than served his time so time to release.

Because he has served his 'tariff' and I really don't see what can be gained by leaving him to die in jail.

Sounds like a ticking time bomb to me.
As somebody earlier mentioned about being institutionalised after all this time inside, what are the chances of him re offending to get back in?
