If you bother to read it, they haven't lied (as much as you are suggesting). They haven't actually paid it yet and will pay in installments. Effectively all they're done is register the liability in the accounts, as presumably they have also registered the corresponding 'rebate' to offset (half of) it.

and now the reality of the situation is revealed!

far from paying the £1.7Bn demand and then arguing we get half back, we have in fact just paid £2.87Bn

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-09-03/...

Now, in my schoolboy maths, £1.7Bn halved is £850M, not £2.87Bn, ie 68.8% MORE.

Words simply fail to cover the sheer disgust I have with CMD and co.

The sad part is we will still end up voting to stay in The EU
As all will fall for the tripe, and the wheel of destruction will Continue to March across Europe

Because in reality he's quite happy to pay up and be a good compliant EU member, but needs to maintain the illusion of standing up to the evil EU to placate his gullible eu-sceptic supporters.

I'm sure he was advised... badly though, don't think so. Only if it becomes common knowledge and he pays the price at the ballot box, then it will have been a misstep.

Again, failing to read to detail:-

"The U.K. payments in July and September totaled 2.87 billion pounds............ and the country will receive back the difference with what it owed in separate transactions........."

It's all smoke and mirrors and half-truths.

Read that, but at best, we still end up paying at least the £1.7bn demanded in the first place.

All nicely buried by news of migrants and the bizarre Corbyn-mania. Never let a crisis go to waste.

Not really sure why anyone is surprised by this.

End of the day these are the rules and costs of membership of the club.

Remember Tony Vlair and Brown gave up out £6billion rebate in exchange for agricultural subsidy changes. Result we gave away £6billion (a year) and zero change to the common agricultural policy.

They did it in the belief that the changes would be forth coming as we played "fair". Tony Blair on that day gave away everyone's Tax Credits naughty boy.

Was that a one off £6billion or a £6billion each year?
