scotland to reduce Drink Drive limit

Cannot believe some of the stuff posted here. Cannot believe that so many posters on a car enthusiast website are arguing why they should have a pint before driving.
It's simple - either drink OR drive. Don't do both.
I really really do not see the enjoyment of having one pint. It's pointless. Why the get the taste and then punish yourself for the rest if the evening?

Get a taxi. It's straightforward really. The arbitrary limit is there to cover alcohol in food, maybe even the morning after.
Oh, and look at other country's limits and look at their death/serious injury rates (due to drink driving) compared to ours.
By the way, I'm far from being any sort if goody-two-shoes or rule confirmor. But on this issue, it's there for good reason.
Oh FFS, the limit is not arbitrary. It is based on evidence that drivers only present additional risk when they are some way over the limit. It's simple - either drink OR drive. Don't do both.

What do you suggest as an alternative to evidence based law? Laws based on feelings? devine intervention? a plebecite of primary school kids?

What a stupid and ignorant comment.
Please explain why it's a good idea to knowingly or plan to drive when under the influence of a mood and behaviour changing drug?

So it's okay for society to encourage drivers of potential killing machines to use those machines when under the influence of a behaviour altering drug? What do you suggest as an alternative to evidence based law? Laws based on feelings? devine intervention? a plebecite of primary school kids?
The limit is to cater for alcohol content in food, etc.
Why do pilots have much lower limits?
If as they tell us ONE pint affects you, why not close all those taxpayers subsided bars in the Houses of Parliament, after all, those who sup their subsideded plonk go to chambers to take part in debates which affect this country and Joe Blogs (or should I say Mohammed) on the streets.

Pilots have different rules. So what?
The limit has nothing to do with alcohol in food. It allows people to drink a small amount of alcohol and drive. The amount is set such that it doesn't unduly affect driving performance.
The poison is in the dose.

I wonder how many accidents are caused by people with between 50 and 80 mg per 100ml, since this is the only group that could conceivably be affected by this.
I think the accidents are mostly caused by people who would fail a "described by a layman as stfaced" test.Politicians pretending we have a use for them. Again.

They (we) are arguing why we should be allowed to.Edinburger said:

That is an option and if you want to do that it is fine by me, I like to occasionally have a beer while out shopping or with a meal and then drive, I have assessed the risk and decided it is negligible.Edinburger said:

Perhaps you think of this as some kind of punishment, if so maybe you shouldn't drink at all. Personnaly I have no problem with having one pint, or one bottle of beer and find it enjoyable.Edinburger said:

Is it really there to cover alcohol in food, I never knew that, are you sure that is correct ?Edinburger said:

I had a look at that and some are higher though I concede most are lower. How much is due to lower limits and how much is to do with driving habits though.Edinburger said:

The current limit is there, and is IMO about right, no need for change for the sake of appeasing a few and being seen to be doing something.Edinburger said:

Don't we work that out a couple of volumes ago?
If not idiotic, the blind obedience to both the "safety" and the "must be seen to do something" dogma is a tell tale indication of the quasi Stalinist...

Surely the sensible limit would be the amount of alcohol that degrades your driving ability to the level of your local minicab driver. I don't drive after drinking, but I'm amused by the notion that getting a minicab is the risk free option.
