Why take the risk?

You know the limit in other countries?
Why should we let people drive after dark?

As more people are killed when it is dark then in daylight hours

In that case, get a taxi home.

If you want to drive, don't have a beer.

But others are suggesting the proposed law change is wrong because they want to have a drink and drive.

Fundamentally, that's wrong.
The current limit has been deemed acceptably safe.

Why suddenly change it based on no new information/evidence?

I suggest the change is wrong because it has definite negative effects (on our freedom to have a beer) and nebulous and highly questionable benefits.

It isn't wrong. Back in the days when laws were set according to logic rather than emotion the limit was set at its current level because it represents a balance between freedom and increased risk. If you never drive tired, with kids in the car, with a cold, talking to a passenger, listening to something annoying on the radio or stressed then you can lecture the rest of us about having one pint and driving. If you do any of these legal things that increase risk then you're a hypocrite.

You didn't answer my non-rhetorical question.

Why should I get a taxi when I can drive?

As catching those breaking current limit = hard

Changing the limit and not catching anyone people = EASY

No. Others are suggesting the proposed law change is wrong because it will have no effect on road safety, whilst reducing the ability of the individual to make informed decisions for themselves.

Fundamentally, that's wrong.

They want to have a sensible drink within the law and drive, why is that fundamentally wrong ?

It is legal, the current limit seems to work fine, why does the Scottish government feel it has to fix something that isn't broken ?

The reason I'm so against drink driving is because a loved one was killed by a drunk driver a few years ago.

It's beyond me why anyone would knowingly drink alcohol and then knowingly drive a car. Or even plan to.

This proposed change is to prevent people having " just the one".

It's car or booze - they don't match.

Wiggley - we all know you pride yourself on drinking and driving and for that reason you are an idiot.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

is it insensitive to ask to what degree the driver was over the limit ?

Now let me guess

Your loved one was killed by someone 2 or more times over the limit

You are incapable of seeing the difference between me having a single pint of beer and someone who has 20 pints and has to crawl into their car

You are the idiot

I'm sorry for your loss, but do you agree that your position is based on emotion rather than logic?

I'll sometimes have a shandy, possibly a second one. I see no harm in it. I'm totally against drinking above the legal limit, though.

One is ok, providing it IS one.

Generally true, but within limits is ok.

No it's not. Drinking too much and then drive is wrong.

Good food needs good drinks too.

Here is another thought

current laws

1 pint of beer is fine and chance of being stopped is tiny

new laws

1 pint is illegal

Still a tiny chance of being stopped

fk it

I'll have that 2nd pint

I'm sorry to hear that.

I have no interest in lives being lost in the future because of drink drivers. But as far as I can see (unless anyone can explain differently) has naff all to do with me having a pint with my steak pie.

I will if you ever get any sort of meaningful power

As this law change is window dressing

It will have ZERO effect on drunk drivers in scotland
