Just thinking... will I be over the new laws? I think it's unlikely TBH.

I'll probably be under the limit at present with two pints accompanying my meal out. Perhaps I'll have 2 every time I'm out for the next 6 weeks to celebrate the freedom.

This is frustrating law. People doesn't drink 2-3 beers and then drive recklessly and kill somebody. No no no. Drunken drivers are usually totally wasted when they drive dangerously and quite often (with young drunk drivers) drugs are used too.

This law doesn't affect that kind of people at all.

A lower limit would benefit everyone, and even if it was a zero limit that would be fine, go with the flow and try and make ab'dy safer

Probably best to ban all alcohol production and sales. And cars, actually, they're quite dangerous.

Assuming 1 unit is 15mg, the reduced limit won't stop you from having a pint, will just stop you from having the second one.

I remember several moons ago, whilst I was doing my drink driving course after slightly misjudging the time taken for the previous night's alcohol to shift (I blew 41 at the station, they let you go at 40. Blood reading came back at 86. Not proud in the slightest), they spent a day of the course telling you how to stay below the limit, and how to work out if you were safe. Key figures were 15mg / unit of alcohol, and it takes 1 hour for 1 unit to leave your system.

Agree it's a stupid idea though, it won't stop people having a skinful then driving home (especially the further North you go), but it will probably increase the number of people getting caught the morning after, when they pose a far lower danger.

You can have detectable levels of alcohol in your blood without having a drink. Do you want those people prosecuted too?

The current limit is evidence based. It should stay that way.

Erm

NOPE

take your victim complex and shove it

If they suggested something that would make a difference i would pay attention

chance of being stopped today = zilch

chance of being stopped after the change = zilch

difference = zilch

I agree no change for changes sake, but things can be improved upon and this is a step in the right direction

Well ban sport cars then

give me one single reason why you should not be driving a 500cc car with a speed limiter set at 15mph

How?

What extra safety has this brought?

Show me the figures for accidents for 50 to 80mg/ltr

you would be better off banning cars which are red

Everyone ?

A person with 51mg/100ml in the morning after a few drinks the night before, how does it benefit that person, lost licence, potentially lost job, adverse impact on their entire family.

Explain to me the benefit they gain from this !

If you are over the limit you are over the limit, you shouldn't be driving. And if your life is ruined due to being over the limit then who's to blame? You or the government?

It's like speed- limits should be sensible in order to be respected. Artificial lowering below sensible limits does more harm than good.

That person would currently be within the law, the change would put him outside the law, you have not explained how the person in the example benefits from the proposed change.

Be honest, who doesn't drive or ride better when they think they might be over the limit?

You sure as hell don't speed, you watch the road and your mirrors like a hawk. You never go for that gap.

just saying....

You'd probably be advised to adhere more to the spirit of the limit than be rigid about it; I suspect rigid adherence would make a copper extremely suspicious.
