From Mrs Loafer's Facebook...

I am absolutely furious.... I have used Morrison's in Taunton since they opened.
As of this morning....I am no longer a customer.

Every year, the Poppies are sold just inside the door. This morning, an 89 year Veteran was selling them outside in the cold.

I took his hand, which was freezing and asked why he'd set up outside. His replied floored me....

"The Manager told me (not ASKED me) to move outside!".

I told him to leave it with me.

I hunted down the Manager and challenged him.

He said that they had their promotion at the door which meant there was no room for the Poppy stand.

I pointed out that if their promotion moved a couple a feet in....there WOULD be space.

"We're trying to run a business" came his reply and "nobody else has complained".

"Surely" I said, "even one complaint is enough to look into it..?" I also said "Forget the poppies for a moment....you've made an 89 year old gentleman stand out in the cold....and he's freezing".

His reply...?

"Well, he'll have to wear a warmer coat tomorrow!"

How totally shocking..!

This is why the supermarket sector is fked.

Was it somebody she knows who posted it? Or was it one of those "Like and Share if you you think foreigners are putting up house prices whilst dancing on Diana's grave" posts?

But that is capitalism. Nothing should EVER get in the way of business. The market rules.

Isn't that what the dead of the world wars died for - so that the likes of Tesco and Morrison's could insult them later in life.

For once I think this is a story worthy of a Daily Mail treatment. Have you contacted the media?

If it's true - of course.

If that story is true I suspect their sales are about to plummet.

Oh gawd, not a Facebook story. That's below even the Mail as to reading it with a certain caution.
Very stupid if true, even if the old boy agreed to go outside and even if that was the arrangement beforehand. A store manager that didn't see that one coming as an instant PR disaster isn't perhaps the brightest.

I'm willing to be it isn't

On an unrelated note, a white Transit has been seen driving around stealing dogs. Like and share if you want to stop it!

A photo of a perfectly normal boy with a medical tube into his nose has been banned by Facebook.

Share his picture if you disagree!!!1111

FFS, people will blindly regurgitate any old crap without bothering to check if it's true.

It's the modern incarnation of the chain letter.

Loafer has obviously been a member for a long time and would no doubt have the sense not to post something he was fairly confident of - the Facebook post does say that they're repeating something that they had been told, but it also contains many specifics which leads me to believe its true to a greater extent, in which case it's a very shameful reflection of society today. I'm no where near a Morrisons, but if I was I'd be keeping a wide berth.

Apologies if I'm being overly cynical - however the post says "as reported by an ex- WRAF colleague". That kind of thing makes me wonder if it's "a friend of a friend of a friend ..." And whether the truth has been fudged with each re-telling.

Also do we still have WRAF? Though it was just RAF now...?

You have every right to be cynical, although it does follow a pattern with Morrosons who got into trouble by banning staff from wearing Help for Heroes wristbands last year.

Anyway, in terms of the WRAF issue, I am guessing that if the poppy seller is 89, he may have some equally elderly ex-WRAF friends!

This happened last year (forget which supermarket, think it might have been Aldi?).

Lots over last few years. Sign of the times, dimwits and little hitlers abound in this country now.
You couldn't make it up, simply because you don't need to anymore!
We're just a trashbin really, full of crap everyday now.

Respect? Bugger off, we need to make money!

We need a sea change.

Ahh, Aldi was one, but not last year. Anyway, not hard to find links, even at Sainsburys and the others.

Because they don't share the views of their customers.

Can you imagine Waitrose doing this, or even Budgens. I can't.

They are too focused on the second decimal place of their daily margin to notice the alienation of their customers.

Yep, I'm in the Ex-WRAF group, happened just today. Totally unacceptable behaviour by the manager and his attitude stinks! Several of the group have called and spoken to the manager who has changed his story several times.

That's good enough for me (Loafers op was v close!) and will be reposting it on my FB - that's no way to treat anyone at that age, let alone someone doing something so kind/good.

Contact Morrissons H/O.

I'm sure this would be resolved amicably and quite quickly with even the possibility of a donation if pushed higher up the food chain.

Also Twitter may be good for this sort of thing.

It's already going crazy on twitter and facebook, Morrisons HQ have received many phonecalls. The WRAFs have contacted local media and anyone else they can think of. Morrisons response has been pretty lame so far, but they say they're investigating.

Yes of course, people must do what you want them to do and have no freedom of choice themselves .....
