I don't think there is a point they can actually say "Hang on...." I am assuming they are ripped off, they have been fleeced and forced and scared and coerced by some very nasty people. I expect that these people are ruthless and there is more suffering and death.
So gangs are running around Africa looking for people to force onto boats? I doubt this.I suspect that they made their way to the coast & actively sought out transport.
On a human level what is going on is horrific and help should be given to stop people drowning but this needs to be backed up with forced repatriation to the place they came from.
Take DNA and fingerprints so we can tell if they do turn up that they tried illegally to get here and just kick them out as they have no right to be here.
Trouble is they burn their papers and effectively become stateless so where would you send them back to so best solution is stop them getting into a boat in the first place. We need to be proactive and have a naval presence that just tows them back to shore before they get too far, it would mean operating in someone elses territorial waters but a price worth paying.
Blowing up a few boats wouldn't do any harm either and shipping back all the ones who say how bad things are over here would start spreading the word that Europe isn't good as the prospective corpses think it is.

Maybe harsh but I'm with Tony Abbott on this one.

Anyone watch the BBC documentary "Kill the Christians" very interesting what's happening to Christians throughout the middle east.
Wouldn't be surprised if this happen in Europe within the next 50-100 years if the current state of affairs continues.
"Jane Corbin travels across the Middle East to some of the holiest places in Christendom and finds that hundreds of thousands of Christians are fleeing conflict and persecution."

Let them drown, if we save them they'll only cost us more money we haven't got. They should stay & sort their own country out, how do they think the west improved?
Not far off what my proud right wing colleague was proposing today. He has views that would make Katie Hopkins recoil in horror. He mentioned using them as target dummies.....Lost soul said:

The west has poured ££££$$$$€€€€ into Africa reaping the natural resources, bribing the dictators and politicians, and window-dressing the whole rapine spree with tax-writeoff funds for handwringing NGOs who often do more harm than good, with few results apart from filling Swiss bank accounts

Whatever you do, don't mention the religion of peace.Wouldn't be surprised if this happen in Europe within the next 50-100 years if the current state of affairs continues.

to be fair that's no real surprise as the most widely spoken language in the world is likely English (note not the most spoken language)drivetrain said:

The West needs to start at the beginning and bring and prosperity to Africa. Not absolutely certain how that would be achieved.
Maybe a concert? If you retweet your support and like a post on facebook the problem is as good as solved

Their place of last departure. Where they actually originate from isn't the next link in the chain's problem. If the previous link in the chain had slack border control, it's their problem. Trouble is they burn their papers and effectively become stateless so where would you send them back to...

We could swap all the people in Japan, or Taiwan, or South Korea, or China with all the people in Africa and prosperity would come to Africa very quickly. Of course then it would be our responsibility to solve the poverty in Japan, or Taiwan, or South Korea, or China.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
