We could swap all the people in Japan, or Taiwan, or South Korea, or China with all the people in Africa and prosperity would come to Africa very quickly. Of course then it would be our responsibility to solve the poverty in Japan, or Taiwan, or South Korea, or China.
I suspect that, regrettably, there is a large element of truth in that statement

The UK has a virtually unrivaled reputation for setting up immigrants for life, rightly or wrongly and to whatever extent.

Agreed. Those coming over in the boats from Africa are not escaping their country because of the local turmoil, they are trying to escape poverty and enrich themselves on the streets of London.

That is their only objective. They are resourceful, simply unwilling to wait their turn and come in legally..

Has anyone answered the question yet - should we welcome a million of these to the UK whilst our NHS is heaving, whilst our schools are crowded, whilst our financed are fubarred.

What would we do if the migrants waiting on Calais decide to come across by boat?

You are aware that the vast majority aren't Libyans?

Australia has the only proper response to this issue. Once you let them set foot on your soil you have the human rights lot involved.

Main item on the 10pm news - interviewees/migrants want to come to England...
to be fair that's no real surprise as the most widely spoken language in the world is likely English (note not the most spoken language)
Thats ok then, best let them all in.
Now I'm not saying that at all - far from it! however I was giving a reason why the majority of people want to come this way (leaving aside any issues of benefits etc). If English is the 'lingua franca' (which it is) then the majority of people will want to come somewhere where they stand a chance of speaking the lingo rather than somewhere where they'll have to learn a new one.

They just want to get out the hell we've helped to create. Why they would go to all the trouble of coming to the UK when they can stay in Italy is a mystery.
The language effect is marked - compare the main countries of origin of migrants to France and the UK. The main African countries contributing to the French migrant population are, in order, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Mali, Cameroon, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire. All substantially French speaking. For the UK, again in order, compare South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Somalia, Tanzania, Zambia, Guyana, Sierra Leone - all substantially English speaking, before you hit the first country present in the French list (Morocco).

Their place of last departure. Where they actually originate from isn't the next link in the chain's problem. If the previous link in the chain had slack border control, it's their problem.
absolutely just hand them back AND charge country of departure with transport costs

There was a relative of one of those who drowned interviewed on the bbc this morning and what she said will shock the lefties in Europe. She admitted nearly all these migrants actually have a reasonable amount of money and aren't always fleeing war torn areas.

She also admitted they have no idea why her nephew(i think) paid money to stay in the camp and then to make the crossing, he was from a good family in a nice area with enough money to live in reasonable comfort

A good point was raised that those in the worse area who are poor simply do not have the money to live in the camps and pay the smugglers fee, makes you wonder why some are choosing to leave...

Anyone watch the BBC documentary "Kill the Christians" very interesting what's happening to Christians throughout the middle east.

Wouldn't be surprised if this happen in Europe within the next 50-100 years if the current state of affairs continues.

"Jane Corbin travels across the Middle East to some of the holiest places in Christendom and finds that hundreds of thousands of Christians are fleeing conflict and persecution."

Still on iplayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b05rcr7n/this...
Whatever you do, don't mention the religion of peace.

just out of curiosity when such occurences take place what happens to the Muslim Brotherhood isn't it fellow Muslims that should be coming to their aid rather than predominately Christian countries.

I wonder if these ships were coming direct to the UK and sinking in the channel and Irish Sea whether the Italians would send their navy to help out?

Can't blame them. Watched it on the telly and it looked like they had great weather for a cruise.

Hey Hooli, in light of the photograph of the 3 year old boy drowned and his corpse washed up on a EU beach - do you still advocate "Let them drown"?
