Actually, I was simply linking an article associated with what you two were posting about; I did not take any side in that debate.
Of course you didn't. Interesting how even US reverse gears make a high pitched whine wink

However, now that you mention it, here is a snipet:

"Payments tend to be about $50 million, which covers around half of the Palestinian Authority's total operating expenses."

Absolutely. Where that money came from and who it belongs to is irrelevant wink
It was derived by taxing goods coming through Israeli ports. That is $50 Million a month more than the "Palestinians" would have gotten otherwise. What is your deal? Why so quick to jump, are you an Imam or something?

Quick to jump because you're posting cr@p. The $50m a month is taxes levied by the Israelis on goods headed for the Palestinian Territories as well as payroll taxes levied on Palestinian workers. This will be paid for by the end-Consumer. It has to go through Israel because of the restrictions they've imposed on entry to the WB. If they would actually fk off and mind their own business there would be no need for them to get involved.

This is the complete opposite of what TM posted. But, of course, you're not taking sides rolleyes

I actually find that Swedes are quiet racist. I have even heard the following:

Person A: Wheres so and so? (he was in the toilet)
Person B ( A swede): He is having a ni***r.

And person be really could see that he had said anything wrong! We were all stunned!
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=neger
(ignore #4)

Perhaps not very PC, but not very racist either. Guy who said it most likely struggled with translation, it's a pretty common slang term with absolutely no malicious intent.[/quote

Neger means black person not in a derogatory way. That is my understanding of the translation.

I think I got the quoting right, apologies if not.

Neger is seen as a derogatory word in Swedish, so much so it has been edited out of history in many areas.

Svenska Språkrådet:
"Neger är inte neutralt. [...] I stället får man använda exempelvis svart eller mörkhyad, om man måste ange hudfärg. [...] Ordet har av utomspråkliga skäl blivit så gott som oanvändbart."

The Swedish Language Council:
"The word Negro is not neutral. [...] Instead, one can use black or dark-skinned, if there is a need to specify colour. [...] The word has become virtually unusable because of extra-linguistic reasons."

You got it right, I hope, otherwise I've completely forgotten I wrote that part!

And with regards to it being derogatory - well, yes, by some. People who actually prefer to live in reality however do not see it as offensive. Don't get me wrong, it's not exactly what I'd call an everyday word in my vocabulary, but I refuse to refrain from using it at all because of PC gone mad. I'll call them negerbollar to the day I die. Nor will I ever sully my mouth and mind by using the word 'hen'.

For those unaware, 'hen' is the gender neutral pronoun in Newspeak (I like to call it Newdish). 'He' in Swedish is 'han', and similarly 'she' is 'hon'. Basically, heshe. People can get insulted you know!

You're right in saying that it's seen as derogatory by some. Unfortunately those some are the ones in charge of the country.

It's funny you should mention negerboll, I was to take that as an example along with the Pippi Longstocking censorship and a few others. Anyway back to the delicacy that is the negerboll, if I'm not mistaken I think the reasoning behind it was that it contains chocolate, not black people, so the name was changed, nothing PC about it you know... Strange then that still today you can buy pingvinstänger in the shops, do they then contain penguins?

Do not get me started on hen. mad
