I do trust that they'll obtain 3 separate quotes for the work.
Are we having a sweep on what the final cost will be? £3B, current estimate; I'll plump for £6.75B.
Edited to add that I now see there are already official estimates up to £5.7B; I'll go for £9B.
This is the bit that is really scary - with English Heritage knowing the cheque is effectively blank along with all the complexities they will find that they didnt know about - this could end up costing a terrifying sum of money....Are we having a sweep on what the final cost will be? £3B, current estimate; I'll plump for £6.75B.

Wot, no nuke from orbit?
Thats not unrealistic, apparently the type of Stone needed for at least part of the restoration, is only found in one particualr quarry.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/1076568...Having had throughout my career involvements with local authorities their capacity to waste money through over complication and a basic assumption that they have a bottomles pit is staggering.
The palace of westminister must be worth a staggering amount as lux apartments/hotels etc, I'm sure the plot would go a long way if you negotiated that a new purpose built parliment is built in exchange for it, and to be fair with all todays terorism/security issues a new build would probably be much better suited to the task. Stick a building in the corner of st james park, making extensive use of secure underground facilities with multiple entrances/exits, replace the robbed parkland with some garden bridges or reclaimed land elsewhere, prob solved. Next.

Broadly I agree with you. But land prices around St James (assume you mean the one in London) must be pretty steep. Instead why not relocate the lot to Middlesbrough? I'm sure that would help MPs focus a bit more. And the answer is........
“MPs have voted to move Parliament to another location for what is likely to be six years while a major restoration of the Palace of Westminster is carried out.
In a surprise move, the House of Commons narrowly rejected government proposals that would have delayed a final decision and instead backed a cross-party amendment in favour of a “full and timely decant” of Parliament.”

To be fair, the whole lot needs modernising!
I was watching a bit of BBC Parliament the other day, and its mad to think that the future of this nation is still being determined in a sort of Edwardian Carry On filmset, complete with crazy costumes, whacked out museum piece buildings and weird expectations of what is suitable behaviour and what isn't.
Its the first time in ages where I actually had to take a step back and remind myself that its nearly 2020, not 1970!

BlackpoolThe council are busy buying up just about anything to build hotels and conference facilities. the towns legendary status as having as many car parks as occupants is secured for eternity. It has an adequate supply of reasonably priced accommodation and eastern European prossies
Its relatively secure from terrorist attack via lorries mounting pavements as you can't get above 5mph.
It's ideal

Would have been nice to have moved it outside of the centre of London/out of London altogether. And then for them to stay there.
Birmingham is reasonable central.Once they start interacting with normal people outside the M25 might have a bit less nonsense from them as well.

This. Stick them somwhere where they have to do a daily commute involving the roads or the shocking public transport system that exists outside London - and we might actually get some decent non-London centric policies.
