Yeah he's just one of the cage fighting gentle giants you hear about.
I did MMA ("cage fighting", for those of a tabloid bent) for a decade, since before the term existed in fact, and during that time, met a large number of very scary-looking, shaven-headed, working class fellows. Hard looking lads, the type you "wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley". But I can only recall one in all that time who was prone to aggro and he was a very small guy. People who train hard to fight for sport don't tend to go out and cause trouble. It's bad form. Many stop going out at all because they don't want anything to happen, and besides, drinking is bad for fitness.CrutyRammers said:

And as I understand it, brawling outside of the sport can see you banned from competition?I’ve lived outside the UK for more than a decade now but what’s wrong with flying your countries flag, driving a transit or posting a picture of someone else who does those things? It would have been polite to have a chat before hanging the flags or taking the photo but hardly something to resign over.
Shaven head, patriotic, likes a drink with friends in the garden, doesn’t waste much time on driveway maintenance, loves a heated argument etc…this could be me. A person wouldn’t be disqualified from the working class by a career in banking and interests in arts, history and the sciences would they? I just need to be reassured about where I sit in this hierarchy and to make sense of my place in society.
The aspect that really baffles me is where this debate springs from. Only 12-13% of the UKs population where born outside the UK (which is broadly comparable neighbouring Ireland, France, Spain, the Netherlands and much lower than some other developed economies) and of those about half hold UK passports anyway. So the UK is by no means exceptional as a destination of choice. Given the countries Commonwealth ties, the number of English speakers globally, the global cultural influence of the UK and the emergence of London as a global financial centre it’s surprising how low that 12-13% figure is really.

Gosh!
I'd heard about bigots, but I guess that I didn't really understand what you were like.
I'm a bit shocked, TBH.
I wonder if I am too old for modern society?
He flies the flag to annoy ethnic minorities and in his "Danifesto" he completely confounds sneering stereotypes by making sure he included the phrase "send them back".I'd heard about bigots, but I guess that I didn't really understand what you were like.

I'm not a bigot. I'm a middle class snob and I'd much rather live next door to Emily Thornberry than White Van Dan.

When I saw the photo my impression was that it was allusion to UKIP being the acceptable facade for former BNP supporters.
It has taken a few days but the media seems to be finally catching up with Emily and I.

The article doesn't really say that - you have perhaps a skewed interpretation.http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-27177864
Article seems to be saying/ inferring that some prior BNP supporters who were not racist have shifted across to UKIP.

This thread is about White Van Dan who a) sounds suspiciously Dutch and b) wants to bring back discipline to the schools like when he had the cane. The fact he's 37 and went to school long after the came had been banned is a mere irrelevance of course.
I think the main point here is he's only 37. Look at him! If that's what being working class does to you then thank goodness I'm not amongst them.

While the right wing media has presented it as a "Sneer at the working class". I don't see it that way because I don't see that image as representative of the 'working class'. I see that as a much bigger leap of intepretation and negative spin given she has been prominently anti-bnp for many years.
p.s.
Don't forget even the DM and Cameron wanted to reclaim the St Georges flag from the far right a few years ago.

No papers to read over the weekend BV? Your collection of cars clearly have nothing needed if you have time to soak up this drivel. Everybody knew what she meant and she proved it by apologising and "resigning". She's a politician for God's sake and what she did was crass; if she really meant something different, she should have spelled her meaning out, not left it to the reader.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
