Only scratches for the occupants, but since this looks like an Impreza with an after-market exhaust I'm surprised the BBC are using "family saloon" instead of "high powered sports car" which is their usual rhetoric.

That is MOST definitely a cut & shut
The bulkhead/front crash structure is about the strongest part of a car & to have both legs of the chassis removed & the front half of the bulkhead peeled away & the rest of it largely intact & undamaged I would say without a shadow of doubt one half of that car belongs to another car.
