Unfortunate, but zero tolerance to DV is a Good Thing in my book, so the callout and arrest are fine with me. Bit stupid of them to keep a nice old lady in a cell for two nights, but there you go.

I hated RE at school, apart from a short time when we had an amusing chaplain doing the lessons. I remember one lesson with him about the spirit of the law vs the letter of the law. This sort of thing (and other similar things you hear about) seem to be connected with a modern mental state of mind where the letter of the law is the only thing that matters whereas in reality human judgement and a little common sense are equally important.

I take it there is no prospect whatsoever of conviction here?

Well, the old lady (who likely has no experience of being arrested) probably admitted she hit the guy with the magazine which would make it easy for the CPS to pursue. Depends on what mood they're in.

Chinese whispers through party walls.

Many years ago, in mine & Mrs Digga's first, semi-detached house, we arrived home in the early hours of Saturday morning in a tired and emotional state. Mrs Digga was not equal to the task of removing her boots - those knee length, lace up things trendy with young women in the early 90's - and requested assistance. I undid what I thought was enough eyelets and tried to remove the boots and pulled her from her seat, screaming and yelling, onto the floor. Next door thought I was killing her and were on the verge of calling the police when they heard her laughing and giggling. We only found this out subsequently.

Not if you slip on a copy of Hello magazine on your way up the stairs.

Ah scotland

We are quickly turning in a socialist state where common sense has to be destroyed at ALL costs

As a victim of DV who called the police three times for assistance but they believed my ex's self defence claim every time even though I was the only one injured, I think they are correct arresting and prosecuting her.
A biased view then perhaps?

I don't know, wasn't there and can only depend on the police doing it for a reason that has escaped our normally professional and diligent press. Either that or someone has made a mountain out of a mole hill. I wouldn't have been happy with that arrest on the CV to be honest, taking it at face value at least.

This is one of those situations where it's worthwhile mentally swapping the genders around and considering the events.

She admitted it, I suspect she will be convicted frown . I guess the national police farce were on a "zero tolerance of domestic violence" drive at the time - with a subsequent ban on the use of discretion during said 'drive' - or something?? nuts

Doesn't reflect well on anyone. silly

But, I mean... Imagine arguing over what to watch on the TV though?? *click* (as next channel chosen) "nah, that's scensoredt! *click* "So's that" *click* "...and that" *click* "...and that is as well" *click* (repeat for however many channels are on their telly). rofl

If she admitted it then a police caution could be an option. No court time and costs should be wasted on this.
