yes
Right, this would never happen somewhere like, say, the US. rolleyes
You're right, the answer is reducing sentences for premeditated armed robbery. That'll stop them. rolleyes

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/10375233/Nine-in-10-walk-free-for-first-violent-crime.html
From that article: Jeremy Wright, the justice minister, said: "People who commit serious violent and sexual offences deserve to feel the full force of the law – whether it is their first offence or not – and can face life in prison."

Is this part of the problem? All people that break the law deserve to feel the full force of the law (including those who take recreational drugs, but that's for another thread). Rather than not enforcing the law, if the law is not right then change it and be held accountable for that change.

The threat of life in prison being possibly only 8 years is not enough, a life sentence for armed robbery should mean you will die in jail.

It cannot be that hard to track down these scrotes, they are bound to be known to the police in some form or another

My counter to that would be - look at the original video - now that really is delightful. Being able to deter would-be nocturnal visitors by way of the very real chance that they could get their thieving heads blown-off, is better insurance than hand-wringing, as your door gets smashed-in and your home and possibly family are violated.

I don't regret not being forced to be a victim.

Very sensible.

Unfortunately in the UK you have to be quick at getting the shooter out of the safe hehe

Indeed, I completely get that - I think it prudent to also point out that this is inside my walk-in closet - not by the front door - and that there are no children in my household. When there are, my firearms are secured appropriately, as they are when I'm not at home.

My point is that the deterrent does go some way to preventing this type of home invasion. Needless to say there are those who feel that the crims would be less likely to be armed if their potential victims weren't. That is nonsense of course - home invaders invariably have little sense of fair play.

hehe I 'hear' the best plan is to have two sets - a noisy one and a stealthy one. One diverts attention, whilst the other lines up for attack, like Velociraptors.

How many people in the US have the gun taken off them and are then killed by their own gun?

And how many people are accidentally killed by a family members' gun?

I knew about the safe, but didn't know about a separate one for the ammo.

Not required for shotguns. Not that it matters, you still wouldn't get your 12 bore out quick enough anyway.
